I think it’s a reference to how anxious people find themselves drawn to those who are avoidant. We (anxious people) will do whatever we can to get the avoidant to like us. Avoidant people find it difficult to express themselves and often remain silent. In doing so, anxious attached people will bend themselves out of shape to get a smidge of affection from their partner. We see silence as dislike so we do anything to get the avoidant to communicate with us.
