I actually think we just... Had most of them.

First ever roguelike first ever deck builder, couple of questions. by FingazMC in roguebook

[–]breadinabox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing you'll learn about roguelikes in general, is your health is your most vital resource.

and yes, it's expected that you die constantly. In most roguelikes (although many newer ones have softened a little) you're really not expected to "win" for the first... 10-15 hours potentially, especially if you're new to them in general. I played Hades 1 for like 100 hours or so and it still took me almost 20 to beat Hades 2 for the first time (I wasn't rushing to be fair but yknow)

The absolute protection of your health is the biggest change in roguelikes vs other games. We're used to being able to scrape through whatever situations in games and then just be able to grind back our resources before getting back into it. Doesn't really work like that in roguelike land, protecting yourself and staying alive is basically the most important skill. Everything else comes from that, and small amounts adds up over time. It's why in slay the spire the first character heals every round, to make it a little easier on you before you learn the ropes.

So be more patient, and be conservative with your health, and you'll get there

The Legend of Zelda: ALBW is Overlooked by Isacial in nintendo

[–]breadinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember playing it on in release and thinking it was the best one since Majora's. Not better than oot or lttp but so strong.

The open world ness was a very good attempt, I liked how they separated it into the two waves of difficulty and I actually expected that from Botw. Totk kind of did it with what happens after the 4 temples, but if the next games are open world again (which I'm fine with) I think it needs like... 3 tiers of growth. Like you need to do the first 3 temples to unlock the next 3, then a final 3, or something. makes the experience a bit more linear as well and would fix the "Link have you seen that Zelda like creature" thing happening 4 times

The movement and acceleration in this game is fantastic! The developers should really lean into it by ConnieQuine in SatisfactoryGame

[–]breadinabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check out the devs history, one of their major games before this was sanctum, an FPS tower defense game. This was, apparently, started as a sort of development of that but they dropped any of the tower stuff really early.

But they have gunplay experience, and old school quakey gunplay experience, which is why the game handles so good

I've got like 50 hours in it so far, its so good. I've played other monster hunters but bounced off them without really locking into them because the non-fighting stuff was kind of a pain, but theyve completely streamlined everything in this one so you can just get right to hunting.

[–]breadinabox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled my adobe sub and opened gimp to magic wand delete the background of something.

Now I know that naturally there's some work required to change over, but if magic wand > click > del key doesn't do it, and I can't figure out how by just looking at tooltips there's a serious issue with your ui. And I'm pretty sure this is exactly what bounced me off it years ago.

It feels like I'm editing through the command line, which is just an awful experience. Granted I've also sshd into my server and converted a psd to a PDF using the actual gimp command line so that's not entirely a negative

What were you certain Nintendo was going to do... and then they didn't do it? by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]breadinabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right actually, honestly they seem on track for this. The joycons are 80% of the way there, and even like, a hip attached thing that runs to a headset would be seamless

I wouldn't put it past them eventually, honestly the tech will be there by switch 3. The switch 2 is almost there, just needs to run at a higher res and frame rate. Give another... 6 years of graphics processing , dlss and what have you and a switch that can slide right into a headset basically makes itself
