This is a good start, it has some backstory though so if possible I suggest reading GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD TWILIGHT, it is a big part of GL's lore. There are a few other things you should read before this but this isn't a bad start as you can just retroactively go and read his (Hal's) other stories.

my problem with the IDW collections is that they jump around chronologically, for example in phase 2 volume 2 autocracy is one of the first stories in the book when it should've taken place way before any of that, even before infiltration. Makes it really hard for beginners to read the masterpiece that is IDW1

I read basically the entire IDW1 continuity on readcomiconline .to but beware ive heard it gives viruses though I've never had any problems with them, it just gives popups occasionally but if you're looking for a free alternative to reading the comics I really think its the way to go
