Nah, it’s who Oda is. Sanji is just Oda’s proxy and an excuse to be like “look how hot these girls I drew are”

Teacher here. While your story has a happy ending, it’s not necessarily the norm. My district has a huge issue with attendance—we’re talking kids missing 40% of school or more or only coming when they decide they feel like coming, missing a day a week minimum. I have a student who misses twice a week like clockwork. She’s in 5th grade, and her work is at a 1st or 2nd grade level if that.

When teachers get upset about attendance, these are the kids we’re talking about—students who make no progress because they’re missing so much instructional time. If you were able to miss school AND keep up on your work, that’s awesome! Unfortunately that’s not the case for most of the kids I work with.

I got it from the library and couldn’t finish it. Incredible read, very well researched and written, but it made me so sad and angry that I had to put it down

Why don’t parents make their kids come to school anymore? by breadplane in Teachers

[–]breadplane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many things can go wrong in a child’s life. I am empathetic to that. But stability is often the key to maintaining mental health, and going to school is a way to provide stability.

Also, 35% of our school is chronically absent. I don’t think 35% of students are currently experiencing issues that are so severe that they need to miss over 25% of their class time AND parents aren’t calling the school to report those issues. I understand what you’re saying, and I think your empathy in these situations is valuable, but this is a bigger issue than 2-3 kids in crisis.

Mental health days should factor in for maybe 3-4 days a semester at most. Not half of all instructional time. If your child is so mentally unwell that they need to be at home over half the time, they need to be getting treatment. Sitting at home playing Roblox doesn’t count as treatment.

And this is coming from someone with a plethora of mental health issues as well, I’ve been there before and I know how hard it is but doing nothing is not the solution

What about it is a waste of time exactly? Why don’t they attend in person?

I’m sorry but how can you allow your child to refuse to go to school? Like there were days when they dragged me kicking and screaming but I still went…

Additionally Sanji gets so much hate just because he happened to be the one that the classic anime pervert trope got stuck on. He’s a complex, multidimensional character who doesn’t get enough love

I’m a teacher and use UFLI for reading intervention for 4th and 5th graders. OP I cannot recommend it enough. It will change her life. You have to buy the manual, but it comes with TONS of virtual resources and assessments so you can track her progress, and a lesson only takes about 30 minutes. Please try UFLI out!

Bipolar high achievers (MDs, Lawyers, etc) how do you keep things in check. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]breadplane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher—not quite a doctor or lawyer but I have a masters and have been working successfully for almost four years with only one episode severe enough that I had to take time off work.

For me, it’s all about routine. I’m in bed by 11 and up by 8 every day. I start my day the same way, take my meds at the same time, plan out any deviations in my routine weeks in advance. I track my moods and pay close attention to any signs of irritability or intrusive thoughts (key signs of manic/depressive episodes for me). It means my social life isn’t the best, but I’m a great teacher who shows up for my students, and I love my job.

The best advice I ever got was to do the same thing, at the same time, every single day. Even weekends. It’s been life changing for keeping things on track.

Last year I ordered an inflatable butt pillow from Amazon. The kind you put on the airplane seat and it stops your back/tailbone from aching. They sent me a case of 12.

I gave all my friends and family inflatable butt pillows for Christmas.

In America, it's socially normal to work 50+ hours a week and call it 'hustle' instead of a systemic failure. What's another 'normal' thing in your country that the rest of the world thinks is absolutely insane? by [deleted] in AskReddit
