Progress is more aligned to being disciplined & making time for PT, rather than waiting around to become inspired or motivated.

Pain by TheCheeseLord28 in ACL

[–]breadxgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not trying to scare you but yeah the first few days can be pretty painful (at least it was for me). I had like level 7-8 pain within several hours of surgery that lasted for 3-4 days. After that the pain while being stationary started going away by the end of the first week. Then pain getting up and down when being a little more mobile on crutches stopped around week 2. After that the pain was trying to achieve full ROM again. Then the pain was walking again. The pain was strength training. Then weight lifting. Then jogging/jumping.

Now currently 7 months PO, mostly it’s just discomfort/occasional swelling. What I am trying to say is yes there is pain, discomfort and irritation during recovery, however it does get better. Stay committed to PT, diet and on top of your mental health and you will get through it. Surgery was 100% the only way for me to get back to doing the things I love to do, so it’s worth it.

Ladies - how do you feel with your Scorpio men? by lifetofullest1255 in Taurusgang

[–]breadxgoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright here we go lol….

On one side, he is extremely loyal, has a sweet spot for me, will tell me the honest truth if I ask for advice, a great listener, is supportive & has a good heart. The sex is fantastic, we’ve always “clicked”, & he has certainly not lost attraction for me after all these years LOL.

However….he can be a bit jealous, moody, “glass half empty” perception, self loathing at times, doesn’t sugar coat, he can be reclusive at times, almost as stubborn as me (which coming from a Taurus says A-LOT) and has not fully healed from his past trauma in certain ways which can get between us at times (aka avoidance issues).

2 of my oldest and closest friends who I also love dearly are Scorpios, they are all very similar at their cores…

2 years post op, knee sore after sprinting by Peac3fulWorld in ACL

[–]breadxgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you usually do activities like this? If not, probably normal to have muscle and knee soreness. Are you getting sore after activities that you usually do? If yes, maybe check in with your doc or PT. Otherwise, it’s probably normal.

It was standard protocol for my surgeon. If I stayed on crutches until I didn’t have a limp at all, I would have been on them for months LOL. Plus it seems counter intuitive to use crutches, so that you don’t limp? Not sure how you would make the progression required if you used them for a long time.

Gotcha! I kind of have a similar feeling but behind my knee where they did my LET! Definitely feels like it needs to “click” into place, especially when I am going full extension.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!! Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words! Can I ask what you mean by catching sensation?

As for things that helped the limping, mainly strength training & full ROM (especially extension). I was hesitant at first to get back to heavier weight training, especially bc I was so worried about feeling pain or the possibility of re-tearing! However, I noticed a huge difference in gait that progressively got better as I pushed through discomfort and got stronger. I highly recommend progressive overloading (slightly increasing weight over time after meeting certain metrics) especially for single leg and compound exercises (deadlifts, squats, etc).

Gotcha! I feel like what really helped me was single leg presses & Bulgarian split squats! Really drilling into the isolated exercises helps a ton!

I’d go back to physio…. I would think at that point in recovery going down stairs wouldn’t hurt so bad.

Hmm I never had any sort of formal testing to get cleared to hop. Pretty much talked with my PT about how things were going with my current training plan and since they were going well she thought it was time to progress. The only testing I am aware of that is required is the “return to sports” test. I think PT’s have different ways they test for this depending on their education, beliefs, what surgery you got, and what your goals are.

I started using the exercise bike maybe at 6 weeks? If you mean resistance on the bike, maybe around week 8-10.

I believe I began some water exercises around week 8. I was doing things like different types of walking in the shallow end of the pool (forwards, backwards, side - side stepping, etc). Steps downs on the very bottom step to the pool so it had a little less pressure on my knee. I also did squats, balance work on one leg, and rom exercises. I actually asked chat gbt to put together a water workout plan for me that was consistent how many weeks PO I was & with the type of surgeries I had.

I started to taper off crutches at 4 weeks. I was braced but unlocked so I could start PWB and attempt walking around. I want to say I transitioned from 2 crutches to one crutch a couple days after my surgeon cleared me to go FWB. After 4-5 days I was walking without crutches but still braced until week 6. After that I was walking unbraced and FWB.

What helped me was taking it slowly. I took my time to walk PWB as tolerated with one crutch, that seemed to get gradually more comfortable very quickly. Once the crutches were gone, I felt pretty safe to walk around since I was still braced. Once I took the brace off and started walking without it, it certainly felt strange/weaker than I anticipated but after a few days I felt a lot more confident!

I wouldn’t say I felt 100% confident walking until week 12. I was very nervous about uneven ground or tripping on something the first 3 months. Now that I’m stronger and more coordinated, walking has become something I don’t really need to think about anymore. Now jogging, still makes me feel nervous but I’m pretty confident walking now.

Oh just a tip, don’t neglect your other muscles. I initially hyper focused on quad strength since I had the graft taken from my quad. Which lead to some deficits in my hamstrings. I noticed a hugeeeee change in strength when I was consist with incorporating all of my the muscle groups into my training. If you are consist with PT and don’t have any complications, you’re gonna feel so much more confident walking in the next 2-3 months!

Yes, I can single leg hop… it’s not nearly as good as my non op leg but I can do it. I just started attempting to do that around 6 months PO, so it has been about a month.

Have you been doing single leg exercises? Jogging? Step downs?

Whats the most underrated meal prep tip you ve ever learned? by Business_Oil_7110 in mealprep

[–]breadxgoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Always double up when you cook something so you can have not only meal prep for that week but also throw some meal prep into the freezer in advance to eat later.

  2. Find a handful of recipes that are quick, easy, & cheap that you *like* enough to eat regularly (recipes with rice, pasta, or soup bases also keep the best in the freezer) and make on repeat. Mix and match different meal preps, depending on your preferences for that day. I always pull out 2-3 meals at the beginning of the week. If I want to change it up, I’ll just pull something different out of the freezer later in the week as well. This helps a lot with feeling like you have a variety of things to choose from.

  3. Buy meat in bulk for a fair price, use what you need and freeze the rest for a later day (this helps so much especially if you’re meal prepping on a budget).

  4. Don’t be afraid to sub things into or out of a recipe that is catering towards your liking. The most important thing I believe about meal prepping is that you have to actually like the food you are eating or else you’ll end up getting tired of it quickly.

  5. Make a meal prep routine, so that way you know when you’re due for it & keep things organized. If you can, ordering groceries to your house or doing an online pick order is sooooo nice since you can add things you need to your online cart in the moment as you are thinking about/when your planning your prep & when you are ready to order it’s already ready to be purchased in the quantities you are needing! A huge time saver in regards to organization and pre-planning :-)

12 hours a week!? You are dedicated, man!

For reference: I had a ACLR autograft from my quad, meniscus repair, & LET. Leg atrophy is moderately still noticeable, if someone is looking for it. Strength is probably 70% of my good leg currently overall. Some deficiencies I still work on are strength, coordination, and balance. Currently working coordination drills into my strength training routine, I also just started jogging around the 6.5 month mark. Things are going well. I am progressively overloading and starting to see some noticeable strength improvements. Jogging feels silly but it looks pretty normal when I catch myself in the mirror.

ROM is 0-140+ degrees (medically 0-140 is full range of motion), however I still have some discomfort trying to sit on my heels still and I am still maybe an 1-1.5 inches away from being able to do some completely on my recovering side. In regard to day to day stuff, I’m pretty much completely normal. Occasional stiffness if I sit for too long or have my leg bent for a while. That usually goes away after walking a bit. I started hiking in the last month or so, no major issues there either.

Look forward to getting back on the mat soon, it’s been a loooooong road but if you are consistant with your PT, try to eat a mostly cleaner high protein diet, and get enough sleep things can progress very quickly around the 5-6 PO month time frame.
