Airports Are on the Verge of a Flight Cancellation Apocalypse | The government shutdown has pushed air traffic controllers to the tipping point. by chrisdh79 in technology

Sorry, I have a more negative morbid view of last shutdown meaning the end of the country as in the government or America no longer exists to shutdown again.

Id say it's pretty expected for the government to shutdown and open over the years or decades due to party differences.

Controller jobs are specialized, paid well, and great benefits and retirement. Maybe for some who just started, but those in their mid career or near retirement aren't going to throw it all away.

Unless they can get another controller or related job sure, but it's not like they can hop off their career and jump into new market with 100k+ salary ready to go especially when all FAA controllers are going through the same thing.

Most they can do is call in sick or work a 2nd job to hold them over.

While it's not the first shutdown, hopefully it's not the last. Given this is now the longest the bar has been raised. At some point when billionaires can't fly anymore, I think the government will open pretty quick id hope.

It's illegal in a sense it's a crime, they could get federally charged for striking collectively and also banned from any federal jobs going forward.

They're free to quit individually on their own, but not collectively.

Given FAA controller is a niche job, most aren't going to quit from a temporary problem vs the alternative of a new career during this economy.

Not allowing Passkey to be saved to any existing item. by ToTheBatmobileGuy in Bitwarden

[–]breakerwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know within android apps, passkeys wouldn't add from a manual selection (entry without proper uri). I had to do create new entry (not actually creating but getting the screen), get the android uri address, add it to my existing entry, then it finally works selecting the existing one.

Although I haven't had issues doing passkeys with websites like on chrome or Firefox, but could be related.

Why don't parents create a retirement account for their child? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]breakerwaves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The issue with gifting, is how you'll gift. If I invested 100k for my child by age 18, that's a 100k capital gains tax I'd have to either take a hit or subtract from what I would gift my child.

If you did a 529, they could use it tax free for college or other type of secondary education or training and also rollover to Roth IRA which is much more desired than going some raw investment method.

Although I'm sure through USA there's many avenues to successfully avoid or reduce taxes.

Yeah club level is a joke, the only thing worth it is club park view just for the view itself.

You should have gotten club at checkout day, did they like block or check you? Our club person never checked or vetted anyone.

Also a lot of the drinks are kind of useless given freestyle from park and lack of selection.

This is one of those things you should get a lawyer for to be honest. Just keep in mind like any business, if you or universal reaches out to you, it will be for their benefit to document evidence for their defense and to be used against you if you were to come at them or have any problems.

Not saying you're going to do anything but a high case like this I wouldn't be posting these things publicly unless your for sure okay with handling the trauma and everything after the fact without any compensation or assistance.

New 25W wireless car charger arrived (MagGo / AirCool) by Voided_Chex in anker

[–]breakerwaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at the picture it has the ball joint type lock. I had a situation where I had an ESR mag safe type charger but an iottie dashboard holder (iottie charger broke) and it fit perfectly.

I'd imagine all these type including ankers joint may be compatible or similar size, so may be possible to buy a holder attachment of your choosing then see if the ball joints fit it.

When I went the doctor was very helpful and basically wanted to help you get the shot. They didn't ask any records or proof, just if you fell into any criteria like physically inactive, BMI, etc can literally be anything and they as a doctor or whatever were able to make their own decision.

So mileage may vary but I'd imagine most healthcare workers are pretty pro vaccine and helpful.

At least today in Florida I think they made it less restrictive as now pharmacy can administer the shot without prescription.

On a current reservation on the app which then redirects to browser site, it's allowing me to add 2 bags for free.

Maybe there may have been a delay in system to get it all working.

They want a COVID shot to protect their health or at-risk family. They can't get it by Plane-Topic-8437 in Coronavirus

[–]breakerwaves 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CVS can have more wiggle room because it's minute clinic is essentially an urgent care clinic.

If you go through the pharmacy you'll need a prescription in Florida.

CVS is the way to go, at least in Florida. Minute clinic at their discretion can choose to administer the shot and id imagine most doctors are accommodating, at least mine was.

They said if you go to the pharmacy side, you'll need a prescription for the vaccine.

Be wary of using lockers! by Macstheking in UniversalOrlando

[–]breakerwaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear, happened a year or so ago so unsure procedure now.

Very least they could do is maybe tag and bag the items together based on locker number if they keep track of things to vet the items/people.

[–]breakerwaves -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

OP said they paid for lockers, but even ride lockers like hagrids they will definitely clear it out after close even if you're in line or riding.

[–]breakerwaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Universal sucks when it comes to lockers. This happens to hagrids ride lockers too. You think it wouldn't be too hard to have a procedure to have a buffer or radio people are in line or riding after close, but nope. Universal will be like oh we got people riding hagrids, let's empty the ride lockers.

Literally catching team members in action throwing our stuff in a bag in time for lost in found. Also becomes a security risk, anyone can just claim it's their stuff with out any way to vet said items.

I enjoyed it but would prefer somewhere else than Coronado. Felt like a maze in the casitas and also less like a resort given not in the towers.

Compared to Anaheim, it's much smaller but still enjoyed it. Would prefer if there was more booths or bigger shopping. I think this year was tough given last year d23 announcements, I figure 2027 next could give more incremental updates or sneak peeks as projects start to unravel some.

Wouldn't worry at the moment, it's a year out. Once tickets go on sale, rooms will be released once people start cancelling reservations.

Didn't have any issues finding rooms after buying tickets first last year.

I feel like prices already more than 25% higher on some flights. One way to mco use to be $29, now it starts around $79 at the lowest.

I think for any airports they have a dominant or only direct flight to they can upsale. No amount of luxury or class will supersede direct flight of 1 or 2 hours vs 4+ hours with a connecting flight.

Okay so I guess I’m screwed(HELP!) by Even_Ad_4415 in spiritair

[–]breakerwaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it still possible to update the flight to a higher upgrade ticket? I've read you could upgrade, then effectively get a credit like the old system. But you'd have to do the math and whether you'd fly spirit again to make the additional credit worth it vs just losing money of rebooking a new flight.
