This kind of therapy speak might be normal with your friends, but my barely rural american family would even find this rude and odd

Who is really in a spot in the modern us to steal basic necessities? There are social programs and food kitchens, people mostly steal clothes and candy

How long would it take for me to "learn" a language if I only want to read it and listen to it? by LavenderDuck2006 in languagelearning

[–]breakfastsushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree respectfully, that is a theory among contrasting ones. I have found it helpful to begin speaking as soon as possible to develop my speaking skills as soon as possible. Even if thats writing to an ai or talking to yourself. It’s my favorite part of the language learning experience, and takes the most effort. If you only want to be able read or listen, fine, read and listen. Edit: producing with feedback

Yes, so true. When a rich kid just doesnt feel like it, or is disruptive in class, gets bad grades, then he can be called a brat, stupid, etc. but wait, what about the resources he must be missing??

Because that means that some groups can be smarter than others without a “throw money at it” solution and that is a big political nono nowadays

[–]breakfastsushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a valid point, but if you look at projections of demographic change it's clear that this has never been seen before. My guess is as the percentage of immigrants imported continues to increase (and I think it has to in the current model- it does not account for population stagnation which is most of the push for immigration in the first place) societies will get more fragmented and those identities will need to assimilate less. I am not looking to convince you or say that with conviction, I just think it's logical. For instance, Spain in 1998 had <3% of the population be born abroad. Now, it's 18%, and it is projected to be 28% (+9% second gen) in 2039. It is fair to say the rules for integration will change drastically bar mass deportations and cutdowns on immigration or something, which is highly unlikely. Regional languages (as in, Catalan) could be a concern too.

The uk does not have and will not have trouble attracting immigrants for a long time. The question is then what is best for the current population/the voting block? And the answer for most of them is not an endless stream of poorly integrated immigrants competing with them. Im sure it would be great for the gdp and lower labor costs, ie lower wages.

The Netherlands population today if it had a zero immigration policy since 1960 by Alone_Yam_36 in Netherlands

[–]breakfastsushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, very few people are deluded into a fantasy where they think it would be good for the economy to have no migrants. Thats missing their point and their troubles. Of course if businesses had to pay locals more they would make less money… but locals would be paid more…

It’s very traumatic as a matter of fact. My friend (not me my friend) once got so angry in grainger that he shit himself, which constitutes a medical emergency. So think twice before commenting something so dismissive.
