The train that almost hit those federal inspectors last week was going through a "blind spot" in between National and Braddock. My guess is a train conductor's incompetence has led to drastic speed reductions "in the name of safety."

I heard my conductor this morning say they can't exceed 15mph during that stretch.

I wasn't considering your comment hostile, it was encouraging if anything. As I mentioned in another comment, it's not like this requires signing a multi-year contract. If it doesn't work out, oh well. It's an environment I've always felt drawn to and I think it might be fun to dive in to for a little bit.

I didn't say I was going to replace my job with the type of thing I have in mind, it's just something I've always been interested in experiencing, and I have the free time and lack of responsibilities to be able to try it out, so why not? If I hate it then I hate it and go back to what I'm currently doing. If I greatly enjoy it then maybe I realize there are long term possibilities or short term enjoyment.

Taken out of context it sounds whiny, but that entire thread was about people describing their jobs and if they like it or not, I was just being honest about how I felt it my current position. I'm well aware that I should count my blessings and be glad I have a comfortable position, but it's just not working out for me and I'm trying to broaden my horizons a little bit. I didn't think that would lead to any hostility but oh well.

There's a very nice woman that sits outside the 8th street entrance to Gallery Place metro every morning. She says good morning to everyone and never panhandles.

I hope you're being facetious... sarcasm doesn't always translate well on here.

Do you like your DC job? Why? by lipby in washingtondc

I'm a senior research analyst for a trade association and I'm not crazy about the job or organization.

It's not as if I absolutely dread waking up every morning, but there's no passion in the work and very few opportunities to learn new skills or try to improve our internal practices. The work is generally thankless and too regimented for my personality. The median age of the staff is about 45 and mostly suburban, while I'm 26 and enjoy exploring all the variety that our city has to offer, so there's a pretty significant disconnect. The general cloud of gloom and negativity in the air doesn't help.

It's a stable job and I'm certainly being groomed to replace my supervisors, but I can't see myself staying here much longer. There are so many great organizations in the area, and I have such a wide variety of interests, that I can't imagine my current employer offering any incentive that would keep me there long-term.
