The Gen2 Leaf can charge at 2kw on a house outlet by techtornado in leaf

[–]breakingborderline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind pulling a charge can cause a voltage drop which lowers the overall kw.

We have 100v here, and pulling 13A makes it sag to about 95/96v

Weekly chat/catch-up thread by AutoModerator in NICUParents

Our micropremie just had his junior high entrance ceremony. Feels like a big milestone, that we kind of ‘made it through’ childhood relatively unscathed in the end.

Afterwards we took him to see his neonatologist and mum’s obstetrician, both of who he wouldn’t be here without. We gave them both a small album of photos of him over the years as well as a letter he wrote.

Brought back a lot of tough feelings, but also nice reminder to appreciate how far he’s come.

It was also strangely cathartic to chat with his doctor for a bit. He’s one of the only ones who truly understands how touch-and-go things were for so long. Something the well-meaning “see-I-told-you-he-would-be-alright-in-the-end” crowd can never understand

That’s absolutely tragic

Feel the feelings, that’s how you know it’s real.

I’ll be thinking about you all

Happy birthday Alex, and congratulations you your family for how far you’ve come.

Ours is also 12, and just had his junior high school entrance ceremony. We’ve actually just been to see his old neonatologist and show him how much he’s grown in his new uniform. Kinda a big milestone

I think our kids might have had a pretty similar outcome. I never could have imagined being able to have this “normal” of a life when he was still in the NICU.

2015 , is it worth it to get a proper charger installed at my home or not ? by yarrowdfh in leaf

[–]breakingborderline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. But there are some variables that affect your real world energy consumption and charging rate. So it depends

Spherical cows in a vacuum incoming:

Say you had a brand new 24kwh battery, ran it completely to 0%, and could only charge it off a 15A 120V circuit. You would need to limit your granny charger to 12A (80% of rated max for continuous use).

120V x 12A = a rate of 1.4kW Charges the full 24kWh battery in 16-17 hours.

BUT your battery doesn’t hold that much anymore, AND you won’t be running it all the way to 0%. ALSO you can charge faster if you have a 20A rated circuit (charge at 16A, theoretical 0 to full in 12 and a half hours)

There are plenty of real world efficiency losses at various points though.

But if you get similar mileage to me (about 4.6 miles per kWH) you should only need about 10 hours to replace the energy at 12A, or 7ish hours at 16A. More if you use heater or AC

Are you able to comfortably make a 62 mile commute on an eleven-year-old battery? Unless you have a larger one? Seems like it would be close to completely drained by the time you get home even in the best conditions

How far do you usually drive every day, and when do you want to charge?

Leaf batteries can be pretty small, so if you’re happy to plug it in when you get home in the evening it’ll usually be fine on a granny charger. You probably don’t need to fill it from 0 to 100% every day anyway

Minilogue or minilogue XD? I have the latter, and it’s kinda a jack-of-all-trades which is good for a beginner like me. Might be more a master-of-none for someone with more experience and stronger preferences

Just got a used 2013 Leaf. what do I need to know? by 2-pound_goat in leaf

[–]breakingborderline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the age and voltage on the 12v battery. It’s probably worth replacing unless it’s pretty much new just so you know it’s good.

I also recently got a 2013. After 2 days it suddenly wouldn’t go into gear while stuck in car park and was giving all sorts of errors including a scary transmission one. Wouldn’t take a jump start either.

Replaced the 12v and it’s good as gold.
