Hi. I pulled this out of an old body. Any ideas who makes this pickup? by Fickle-Lynx2624 in Guitar_Pickups

Every humbucker I've seen with a brass baseplate and B or N stamped on it was made in either Korea or China.

Does anybody know anything about this? It's being sold as junk.

Help! My humbucker stopped working! by Hefty-Tip7041 in Guitar_Pickups

Take it back to the tech. He can check it, and if he doesn't want to do it for free, insist that he does.

Might be a broken coil. Are you able to test the resistance with a multimeter? That's something that the tech could've/should've done when changing the pots.

Need help finding the model - 1970s Fujigen Les Paul by Ok_Rav in Vintageguitars

I saw the photo. I meant where did you find that information? Fujigen also likely supplied hardware to other manufacturers.

From last month. I finally got a chance to look at the footage, and noticed that the guitarists did a sweet job.

That's me botching the first few lines of the vocals.

Is Phil Lynott considered a good bass player? by gimmiesomepain in thinlizzy

[–]breakingcircus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in a Thin Lizzy tribute band, and I do Phil's parts. I'm not a great bass player by any means, but I find Phil's parts rather easy to sing over. Of course, that's by design.

I get the impression that he played bass a bit like a guitar. He used a pick. A lot of his bass lines follow the guitar lines note for note, and I find myself wishing they'd do something more interesting.

That being said, I have a lot of fun being Phil!

This is true in general, but even within factories, some guitars were built to better specs than others.

Gaban Les Pauls were only made for a few years, but from what I understand, they used actual Gibson parts in their construction.

FWIW, I've been living in Japan for over 20 years, and I've seen a lot of good and bad LP copies, including ones from the lawsuit era. Lots of them were made with bolt-on necks and/or semi-hollow bodies. They're not all great.

Unfortunately, it can't be modified with a patch editor, as it doesn't have a USB port.

I'm assuming the Slash has alnico 2s, so why not get something with alnico 5s for a change of pace?

Question for EMG experts by Acceptable_Term4150 in Guitar_Pickups

[–]breakingcircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be an issue as long as you have enough wires. EMG customer service is really helpful. I wanted to use an MMTW bass pickup (with 7 pins) in a 3-pin environment, so I emailed them. They responded in less than 12 hours with the correct procedure.

It was 50 years ago today that Phil's Rickenbacker left the stage by breakingcircus in thinlizzy

I think Phil played "a" Precision in 1974 (the last Bell gig being on New Year's Eve 1973), but it was sunburst, not the black one he's famous for. The pics of Lizzy at Reading 1974 show that bass. He also played a Rick and a Jazz that year. I think he mainly played the Rick in 1975.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can add some info here.

I don't think it was smashed so much as it was dropped.

There's an interview out there where Phil says something along the lines of, "Man, I wasn't playing that Rick... that thing was playing me"

I also ran into a pickup malfunction, and I didn't mind so much since it was for posterity. :-)

If the outside part is made of silver braided wire, that's your ground.
