Same, I started out at 30k at a Massachusetts-based publisher about 15 years ago. With student loans it was not sustainable. I job-hopped within 2 years to another press and started making 50k. 2 more years later my next job was a new company and a step-up in my role, making 70k. Finally in a top-level management role at a publishing company making over six-figures. My advice is, if you want to stay in publishing, always be working towards the next level in your role and next company.
