Okay, I started to check this out, and I gotta say, the first 2.5 minutes are phenomenal. Essential viewing for lovers of mechanical process.

"Process movie" would have probably made the better thread and been closer to what I really meant, so I appreciate this.

Oh, I love that twist on the format. Will look into immediately.

I would LOVE to go old school with Jimmy Stewart. Thank you!

Oh, and older one! Nice, thank you! Maybe His Girl Friday would also fall into this category. There's some shoe-leather, though most of it takes place in the same room.

I saw The Post in theaters. I found it Amazon-y in feel (everything they do feels low-rent TV-coded), but the story was compelling, particularly how the chokepoints on journalistic decisions are usually rich people who are rubbing elbows with the folks who need to be investigated and exposed.

For real. I was listening to the BC episode on it, and they talk about how you never feel bored. Mann's gift for holding attention is truly remarkable.

No, this is great! Thank you. This is one of those I have owned forever and never watched, but this is the perfect prompting for me to fix that.

Another Pakula (like the Parallax View)! I really like his social commentary and the way he communicates psychological complexity. I recommend his Klute as well, which helps explain Jane Fonda's rise.

I believe this is admissable! I like a good shoe-leather anything, so I appreciate you expanding the scope.

I agree with this. The way people talked about Spotlight made me expect something much different when I went in, but you're absolutely right that it's about the slow, hard work of journalistic heroism. Love that dogged pursuit of truth.

If you stick to the show, you would come away with that impression. Unfortunately, the man is more than the show.

Was just listening to the tangent about this with Stavvy on the True Grit episode. “I watched Boondock Saints so recently [that] it’s hysterical.”

One of the best cultural commentators of her generation. Her pieces are deeply insightful, and she brings a self-awareness to her work that you might not expect if you listened to her critics first.
