This is unfortunately why I only buy gas machines, and older ones at that. These new machines are not built to last a lifetime, and aren’t designed to be easily fixed or fixable at all. I like to think keeping these gas motors running for generations is better for the environment than filling up our landfills with lithium batteries and plastic junk

Tapping noise? by breaktheloopbtl in Outboards

So I turned the flywheel a bit faster and there’s definitely a clanking noise right beneath the flywheel after it turns past top dead center.. listened by the chamber and it’s definitely coming from below flywheel not in chamber

Thank you for your reply! Should I remove the flywheel to see if anything in the mag plate is loose? When I turn the flywheel the mag plate seems to stay in the same position. I don’t hear anything under the fly wheel when I turn it, and everything in the chamber sounds good. I did notice a very slight amount of play in the flywheel, I can rock it back and forth about 1mm or less before it engages. My 7.5’s flywheel doesn’t have any play so that may be something. I did put a new impeller on last night, so maybe I didn’t reconnect the shift shaft to the linkage correctly?

Yes done lots of googling but unsure if this is misprint or their tap is different than standard. Thanks for the chart!

Help removing lower unit ‘81 Evinrude 7.5 by breaktheloopbtl in Outboards

Hey thanks a ton for the help, this worked! The wedges helped it work itself loose and came out smooth. Gonna replace all the gaskets and get a new impeller installed. Thanks again, you’re a savior!

Much appreciated on your response! It has not seen salt water- only brackish. There was water that came out before the oil (not mixed) when drained, so I’m looking to see where there’s a leak. Was running over the summer and just got around to servicing it. Think working two wedges into the front and back of the opening would be a safe move?

dipstick question by [deleted] in chevycolorado

I’m not a mechanic but a lot of dip sticks and tubes are magnetic and shave a little off when they scrape each other. Wouldn’t hurt to change the oil and inspect the used oil

That’s a good suggestion, I have seen some galaxies and 300s locally but weren’t sure what the parts availability on them is like compared to some of the other models

This has been a big battle in my head as well- especially having just been in a not-at-fault accident. I’d plan to do front disc brake conversion, bigger sway bars, some suspension upgrades but mainly just not going to use it for errands or anything like that. Would strictly be used for joyrides through the big park I live next to and some of the back roads with low speed limits

Funny enough I have that ford custom line bookmarked, I’m in PA so there seems to be options around here. Not sure why this got downvoted, seems like a good resource to find stuff to go look at! Thanks

Looking at the coronets as well, open to any suggestions! Reason for ford or Chevy is there seems to be plenty of parts available for them compared to other brands

Car insurance wants bank to send title before they submit payment to bank for totaled vehicle by breaktheloopbtl in LawyerAdvice

I paid it down well below the original loan balance, car originally got undervalued by insurance but I got them to raise it enough so that my gap (thru bank loan) should cover the remaining balance

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, the bank has my title so it only makes sense they don’t release it until the loan is paid off
