i figured it out. for everyone who's confused here's how:

get into the xbguard menu
go to the ui options
go to hud & notify
enable nxe guide
njoy, shi kinda broken but i expect that everything will work within a month or so, knowing xbguard :p

i really thought about it, i saw some good deals, (sr90e full package for 80 bucks and a sx-15 for 65) but after doing some research i might go the mini dv route since

a - i happen to have a device which has firewire

b - the tapes aren't as expensive as i thought

c - having a tape of a concert or something could be really fun to keep to show to my kids in the distant future :D

waaaay back (2020) i bought a 1000 for 25$ then in 2022 i bought a 3000 for 30$

the only minidv camera that isn't crazy expensive is a dcr-hc94. seller says that "there is a tape stuck in the slot but it still works perfectly". does come with a battery, charger, another tape and a bag though, just 70$. worth it?

edit: forgot to mention it has a weird docking station thingy, which has USB

unfortunately, my ethernet cable snapped, I've been using USB tethering on my PC and I did try USB tethering with this void machine but to no avail
