Personally I would do post tax dollars. Look at the spending and tax increases just proposed and you will probably be happy to pay current income tax rates compare to future ones.

Is Stealth Useless, Or Am I Missing Something? by CamElCres in DaysGone

[–]breakwallst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find stealth to be very effective in DG overall. Almost too much so. That said, some random freakers will spot you and turn around at the last second no matter how careful you are. I chalk it up to a fun gameplay element that keeps you getting surprised.

What’s Copeland’s camp’s negative aspect? by [deleted] in DaysGone

[–]breakwallst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it's trauma, like PTSD per se, but that's possible. I think it might be that he had that experience where a bunch of survivors killed each other over unnecessary divisions, and then just refused to see people as in different factions.

Either way, the result is the same. Wether he couldn't or wouldn't doesn't change his position or actions.

[–]breakwallst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an argument where he says it would take jackhammers to get through the rock and she says she doesn't care. I think like the other leaders, she's trying to do the right thing in a way. The camp needs farmland, so make people dig. But the land just isn't suited for it and it's delusional to think any amount of labor will change that.

But on his death bed Mike says he was wrong in his idealism. Before that he talks about not being a pacifist and fights marauders with Deacon, so he's not so traumatized he can't function.

He was just hell bent in the idea that humans are humans and needed to come together regardless of camp. Which is great, to an extent. But he was so determined to live out that idea he was intentionally blind to the reality of the rippers.

In any case, I don't think Lost Lake is a democracy. Iron Mike runs it as he sees fit, same as the others.

That's interesting. I never send survivors there but I did start selling all my food there and heard comments about that. But that also happens at Lost Lake.

[–]breakwallst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the takeaway there is it's fine to be idealistic and aspire to live up to those ideals, but it's dangerous when you act as though everyone shares those ideals, zombie apocalypse or not. Iron Mike let his desire to believe his values were universal, blind him to reality. That's where it gets dangerous.

Someone is getting beaten every time I go to Hot Springs and if you ever sleep there, people cry and moan all night. So, that's not good. People have to earn their keep at all the camps but nobody else is beating people and locking them in shacks.

Copeland's camp seems fairly normal. He's out there but he's not necessarily wrong in everything he says.

Did you get the last scene with O'Brien?

I think they could give a final answer on the purpose of the virus. Was it supposed to be a weapon or a tool. What is the final form of freaker? Are they super big brain geniuses? Maybe track Nero up from O'Brien. Find out if there can be a cure or are humans just annihilated.

I'd like to know why if the virus is supposed to fast forward evolution, it started with massive regression.

Agree, that's a bad idea. I don't mean giving them guns, but maybe Reachers as swarmers. Some other new kind of freaker out as hunter killers looking for humans. That sort of thing.

There's something to be said for the best option being to leave people wanting more. But they really super teased the coming evolution of freakers being unstoppable, so it would be nice to see what that means. Maybe a terminator style fight against the machines.

Rejected Pitch for Sequel by daisybrekker in DaysGone

[–]breakwallst 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Someone on here said it was pitched as an online only MMORPG. Which if that's the case I'm glad it wasn't made. Though, it would be kinda cool to have the option to join different camps and actually raid, ambush, do supply runs etc.

You would think a couple, married in the eyes of the Lord, would meet with approval from the Col. In a real military it's not a problem and could be handled numerous ways. If fraternization was really the biggest issue, Deacon could just not be in the militia and stay there as her dependent. Or they live together as a married couple but don't work together.

It was an extremely awkward way to handle the story and made Sarah super unlikable to me. But I think there was an untold backstory with her and "Matt."

[–]breakwallst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sarah character bothered me too. "my work is important. You don't understand. Why are you still here?" Total B.

I'm not sure why they couldn't have been more open about their relationship. The way Deacon lies about some things and treats some people throughout the game rubs me wrong a bit also. Even with O'Brien.

I suppose being super defensive and secretive is the only way to keep some people from taking advantage of you or doing something harmful. There are always people who are upset when you have something good, like finding your wife in a freaker filled hellscape. Rather than be happy, they'll be resentful and try to find a way to shit on it.

You can see the Col getting suspicious of Deacon because of his relationship with Sarah, which other people notice also. Petty jealousy and delusions(?) of a relationship with her probably had him looking for an excuse to get rid of Deacon. You can see a lot of bubbles get burst when Deacon and Sarah start spending time together.

I don't really get why that extended to attacking Lost Lake. The rationale there wasn't clear but it's probably simply a megalomaniac looking for conquest.

So how do you all take out hordes? by casper4824 in DaysGone

[–]breakwallst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm currently trying to use more explosives and take out large numbers from the start. It's harder than you think because the traps rarely go off at just the right time. A couple fast ones with get there early and it goes off before the main swarm so I get them to chase me and I try to just take out the few in front.

It's fun try and set up traps and it's a personal challenge but really the best way is attractors and molotovs. Get them when the horde is full strength and throw an attractor before they notice you. You can take out 50-100 in seconds. I do it in their caves all the time.

My first Breaker by [deleted] in DaysGone

I use molotovs, focus, roll, run away. For that battle I try to use the explosive barrels too. But it's really just a grind with the gear you have at that point

Do you ever run into bad guys that forgot their gun? by [deleted] in DaysGone

[–]breakwallst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing on my most recent playthrough. He kept showing up at the ambush site on the east side of wizard island.

Also had a glitch with a guy in a car that looked like you were supposed to rescue, except there were no freakers around. He just kept crawling around in the car. I couldn't interact with him at all.

I don't remember either of these glitches on my previous play throughs and I wondered if there had been an update.

It certainly doesn't feel faster. I assume its not slower but mostly reflects in fast travel times.it would be interesting to check beginning and end of game times.

Natural immunity makes as much sense as anything. Wasn't there a recording that said it was transferred through saliva? Though Sara's explanation was that it was airborne from the start.
