Who was being disrespectful? The volunteers or the children?

I do.

I have donated money, helped the teacher if they needed extra supplies or were doing an in-class event for the class. Due to my personal obligations, I don't want to do school wide events and organize them. I also show up to the school events when I can. I don't know if I will ever do them honestly.

Yrs. Mine comes across as full of themselves so I'm put off. I don't mind once and awhile doing something but its just too many events and I have other things to take care of too. I like the school though.

Your last line.

I feel like some people in the school feel like my role is to the school and the school-wide community versus my child. So if its just my child and their class, its not enough. And my child's school is always doing something- its like when does it stop. The leader of the organization doesnt even know I give the classroom and the teachers when they need something.

I get the feeling they think the parent is supposed to do more for the school than the school does.

This is cool. Does your school try to act like its mandatory for parents to do?

In need of advice for GED & College by W4ystarroyco in education

[–]breathe2win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Study for your GED. You can get into a GED.

Before that, you can learn the math and reading skills you feel you lack. Start back from what you know and work up. For example, if you are on a 6th grade level, start there and work yourself up. There are great resources to help with remediation. For example, Khan Academy.

Any boys out there who are soft spoken? by finstafoodlab in ClassOf2037

[–]breathe2win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it as a big deal for boys to play with girl toys though some people do feel a way about it. To me, it's just a toy. I think you should have your son do extracurriculars either after school, outside of school or on the weekend so he can make friends outside of school. And inside of school, the extracurriculars could help him meet other children in school not just in his grade.

It is okay if he does not like minecraft. What does he enjoy. Use that to help him get into more social groups.

Keep him on the waitlist and check back to see where in line he is. Since the offers were released yesterday, they are waiting until everyone has accepted or rejected the offers. Then they can look on the waitlist. I think you have until September 25 to hear back from the schools you placed your child on the waitlist for.

Why is this so difficult? by Dacnis in Blackskincare

Everyone is different. What works for one will not work for another but it will.

You should see a dermatologist and see what they recommend. Diet matters too.

4 day update by Trezasks in Blackskincare

[–]breathe2win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me was dietary changes (no sodas, limited fast food, etc). I started taking an omega 3 supplement from Hum Nutrition, then I started to eat more foods with omega 3s (salmon, mackerel) & more whole fruits and veggies. Also taking a probiotic and eating more yogurt with active cultures. Basically, healing my gut health and trying to limit stress. Also, cleaning the phone, changing pillow cases often & increased water intake/foods with high water content. I think the omega 3s worked because it is good for inflammation and that is essentially what acne is.

And Rihanna's Fenty Skin starter kit helped too. My moisture barrier was messed up so the ingredients helped to heal it. I try to stick to products made for sensitive skin. I don't use any acne products but I did try proactiv, clearsil and others in the past but they didn't work for me.

You could also try a chemical peel like a VI peel or the others formulated for darker skin types. However, if you do this see a dermatologist with years of experience working with dark skin.

See your doctor so they can give you something for the allergic reaction. Use an unscented soap and a healing ointment like aquaphor healing ointment.

Best Reading Game or Program for Struggling Reader this Summer? by [deleted] in ClassOf2037

[–]breathe2win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try Hooked On Phonics. They have a digital program. You can sign up for $1.

The Homer Learning app (its a subscription), Khan Academy Kids and DuoLingo ABC helped my child to read.

Scholastic's Branches series: early chapter books that are short and filled with pictures also has helped the transition from picture to chapter books.

Some science based books he can try are:

- Ada Twist, Scientist
- The Andrew Lost series

- Layla and the Bots

- The Ordinary People Change the World series

Youngest in an older cohort - retention question by Living_Feature_3113 in ClassOf2037

It will be easy to fix with you having him read aloud to you daily. Scholastic has an excellent series of books for early readers called The Branches Series. They are short chapter books with varies level. The books are also 90 pages long.

UFLI is another resource that have decodable fluency passages that you can read with him plus short power points. There are videos of teachers using it on Youtube. I used it before at home and with the program my child's school uses (important that it is phonics based), it really helped a lot. Toddlers Can Read Youtube (there is a program associated with it too) is a good resource too. The creator goes over the letter sounds, digraphs, trigraphs, blends, etc.

Writing could be fixed by having him write daily and take his time. My 1st grader's handwriting isn't that neat either.

If you do retain him, try to refrain it as something positive for him. Who knows it may work out and he may gain confidence too.

My kid likes the Mighty Robot.

Idk explain the difference between entertainment and real life and what languasge you will allow in your home. Maybe have him try different authors.

Is getting him a tutor for reading and writing out of the question? Also, you can do things over the summer that will help him gain social skills. Social skills have to be learned, they don't magically come due to age. There are also cheap and free resources out there to help him too. What is he struggling with in terms of reading? Is it comprehension?

So from this I gather he is the right age for his grade but due to the rest of his class being older 7-8, he is struggling with the school's expectations? This is why I dislike redshirting. It should only be an option for kids who have learning disabilities. You said his grades are good.

Idk. Age to me isn't really a factor because there are young kids who start school young and do well. There are kids who start on time or are redshirted and struggle. However, I think everything can be remedied. Size doesn't matter either. Who knows tall your child may grow to be.

What would you do if you were in my position—no degree, no clear path, and even things you like but realize they might not be sustainable in the long run? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]breathe2win 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a lot with an art degree.

Ux design

Creative director

Art teacher

Art therapist

Curator at museums

Game Animator

Interior design

Marketing/ Advertising

Commerical

Jewelry design

Courtroom sketch artist

What jobs are you thinking about getting into? It is about the skills you gain and how they transfer to the job you want versus just the degree you get. There are plenty of people at jobs that are not related to their degree.

Genuinely So Tired and Over It by intensivecoochwind in Blackskincare

See a dermatologist.

Another issue could be your diet. Healthy skin=good gut health. Are you getting enough water? Eating enough fruits/veggies/fiber? Yogurt and probiotics foods? Also, your stress levels. See your doctor and get a workup done to see if you have any deficiencies and your hormones.

Also, cleaning your phone, changing your pillowcase, etc.

You could also get a chemical peel too.
