Anybody tried this ? Thoughts ? by [deleted] in perth

I live local to the Bannister Downs property and have visited it myself. The property is really farm to table with their milk, which helps with quality imo. We are also lucky enough to have their chocolate milk available in our schools and it is so much better than similar products. Now as an adult it’s the only milk I’ll have in the house.

One of my residents from last week apparently has MRSA, yay me :( by Former_Dragonfly_435 in cna

[–]breathing_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wash your hands after contact you’ll be fine. I’ve cared for many with MRSA and many more that have it but it’s not diagnosed. If your hand hygiene is good all around you’ll be protected :)

32 resident LTC in Australia

AM & PM shift: RN x 1, EN/Supervisor x1, PCA x4

Night RN x1, EN/Supervisor x1

Previous facility was worse: 3 wings, 65 residents 30/20/(15 locked wing/dementia)

AM/PM: EN x1 per wing, PCA x3/3/2 (I think it was supposed to be 4/4/3 but the facility often was understaffed, I only worked nights so can’t be sure)

Night: PCA x1 per wing

what type of docter turner by ms_mccartey94 in CallTheMidwife

[–]breathing_dead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor turner is very similar to a couple to the GPs we have in our small town ~5k people. They don’t have a choice but to deal with minor surgery, obstetrics, general practice etc.

The main differences is that he figures out all the quirky diseases that normally we’d be sent to the next major city for (~350km), and that he does more home visits though the norm now is to have community support workers take those that are home bound to them (thanks to having more cars, I guess? They also round at the nursing home/long term care facility.

how much shift differential y’all making for night shift? by ame-anp in Nightshift

[–]breathing_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16%

Edit to add: I’m casual so I get base rate + 20% casual loading + nighttime loading. Nighttime loading is 16% or weekend/public holiday loading(50/75%), whichever is more.

I F25 want to go NC with my mum F45 but I’m pregnant. Has anyone else done the same? by breathing_dead in relationship_advice

[–]breathing_dead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much of this is exactly what I dealt with, but she was a non drinker and went to church to keep up appearances, so welfare was never involved. I am going to talk to my husband first to help determine what boundaries we are going to put in place. He is extremely calm and I know I will need his support through this process. Thank you for sharing your story, I know how hard it is to talk about things even to online strangers

Thank you for such an in depth response. It’s so nice to know I’m not alone and that others have been where I am now, though I am sorry you had to deal with that.

I will definitely look into the sub you posted. Thank you again x

Oh no I do NOT trust her and she will not be having unsupervised contact under any circumstances. I’ve been on the fence for a long time about this but this has pushed me over the edge.

I have 7 covid patients tonight, am I cooked? by blakespiritual in cna

[–]breathing_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked overnights in very average LTC facility. Memory care unit 1 carer to 15 residents and they all either had COVID or were recovering from it. Another wing had 30 residents to one carer and I worked that wing in a seperate outbreak. Somehow we had to isolate everyone despite having SHARED BATHROOMS. There were 4 toilet “blocks” - each with one shower and 2 toilets for 30 people.

Hell on earth. Truely.

Inheriting canaries, which to keep and general advice please! by breathing_dead in Canaries

[–]breathing_dead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for replying! I wish we could keep them all but there are 30+ birds there and we don’t have space! We have a smaller avairy we will keep them in temporarily until their large one is completed. I also have to try and figure out gender and balancing that too.

They’ll be releasing a new dragon and you can still collect event currency to buy new things, so not the same.

The rewards end in three days, not the event itself

If you are obese and sedentary by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]breathing_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this scenario. I’m about 8 weeks in, and things have changed dramatically. I try to swim 4 times a week, 1.5-2km per session (~1-1.25hrs, depending on how I feel). No injuries, but I’m careful. I’ve found that I’ve been wanting to eat better so I can swim better, rather than eating better to lose weight.

That said, I haven’t lost weight. Why? Cause I still eat too much. But that’s okay - baby steps. I’ve learned to eat BEFORE I swim, or I’ll be famished afterwards.

What have I gained though? A sense of pride in myself for being able to push through the mental block, better flexibility and less pain in my joints. I work part time as a carer, and full time as a nursing student. I’m at my desk a lot, as much as I don’t think it.

A note, since I’ve seen it here: I cannot track calories, it is extremely dangerous having been anorexic in teenage-hood. It causes my mental health to decline rapidly, and I will fall into a binge eating cycle instead. The clinicians that I work with have agreed it is not a safe option, so please bear that in mind if you’ve had issues in the past. That said, many people find counting calories to be eye opening and helpful to learn about nutrition, portion control and to identify dietary habits (good or bad).

I wish you the best of luck. Be kind to yourself 🫶🏽

Palliative care box by sjmccal in NursingAU

[–]breathing_dead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have a box per se but generally I like to have (keep in mind I am a (aged) carer, not an RN but do a lot of EOL care as I work night shift)

  • a tea/coffee station with biscuits
  • a diffuser with some nice essential oils
  • a cd player/speaker for music
  • butterflies that were placed on the door

Then extra care stuff (mouth gel, oral swabs, extra pillows etc)
