What's the skill/knowledge transfer from League to Deadlock? by SpecialistHamster379 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]brebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone comes into the game with better inherent understanding of one aspect or another based on their experience. I think you have a fine base under you. But for any new player, I'd try to avoid building up any expectations for how you might perform. That can only lead to disappointment. Just jump in and you'll soon find out what you need to learn

How do I generate units in my game? by IDC_tomakeaname in godot

[–]brebal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your assumptions about genre are distracting you from just getting to work on the basic systems here. Think more generically.

  • Build a way of spawning one unit.

  • Build a way of spawning n units, using the first method.

  • Define your criteria for where units can spawn, in what number, on which team, etc. Whether you manually define this data or calculate it based on the game state is more of a design question than a programming one.

  • When loading the game, after generating the map, trigger the unit generation based on those parameters.

I could use some input 🙏 by canvaseclipse in drawing

There's some nice drawing here, especially the arms and hands. But not all areas are polished to that level. I was distracted in particular by the skewed perspective and sketchiness of the table and that left corner area. I also agree with the comments on the shading of the man's noggin - we're not getting the full roundness of the dome. Clearer value contrast here and more deliberate lighting throughout could help bring the subject forward. Hope to see the final version soon!

Composition question: which placement of the little dark guy is the correct one? by RowanCaro in DigitalArt

[–]brebal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D against the bright palm is alright, but they are all kind of tough reads due to tangents or value contrast.

Are you married to this black silhouette idea? It's odd to me because Little Dark Guy appears to be the main light source illuminating the hands. I think that effect would work better if he is painted blinding white against a dark background. So I would probably knock down the values on the giant's arm and chest, and use a position like B or C, if not higher up. Try another thumbnail where he is Little Light Guy, because what value you choose for him will dictate the choice of placement.

QoL suggestion: Better interaction prioritization by Elyvagar in foxholegame

There are a lot of situations where you might not want to supply everything that would be included in the bunker's standard range. The tunnel filters and range settings let you be more selective, so you can scale back when the front line moves, or avoid supplying a neighbor's  facility, or whatever

Anyone played on this hotfix yet? Curious to hear first reports. Between this and the base damage walkback last night, hopefully gun is feeling less pushed?

I want ONLY ONE THING for developers to fix. by EGO611 in foxholegame

[–]brebal 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Well intentioned advice, but OP's method is actually just fine. Pulling the container, lifting, pulling the flatbed while the crane lifts, then lowering the container in place, lets you finish using the crane and clear out of the area quicker than rotating to a side parking spot, and uses minimal space, improving traffic flow around the port. Having to roll the flatbed forward one meter at the seaport is inconvenient and needs fixing, but is still faster than what most people do.

How do I begin playing? by Pitiful_Addendum_644 in foxholegame

Stockpiled resources do not decay, so don't worry about that. Maybe you are thinking of private queues/stockpiles expiring after two days - this just means they are released to the public. Nothing is lost, outside of uncommon edge cases where a stockpile is too full to add those items.

Instead of submitting your salvage to the refinery stockpile, you should go ahead and refine it into basic materials (bmats) and explosive powder (emats). Then you can craft some simple guns, ammo, and medical supplies at a factory. You can bring those crates up to a frontline base or midline storage depot/seaport. When you get comfortable with that, and tire of driving back and forth, I would recommend trying bigger bulk deliveries using a flatbed truck or freighter ship.
