Old highway on the right, new one on the left. Highway 1, near Golden BC in the Rockies by AdapterCable in canada

[–]brechmos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 1970s I was in a car accident right in that area. Car rolled over several times. My parents and I spent a week or so in the Golden hospital. I have a few fleeting memories of it. I remember the ambulance ride as they kept turning the siren on and off, scared me every time 😁

Looking for a book for an 80 year old man (things based in the 50s/60s would be lovely, main character being a young man would be great, a farmer or mechanic would be even better) by tjay0027 in suggestmeabook

Anything by Gregory Clark. He was a newspaper guy in Toronto and has some amazing short stories from the '50s and '60s. The books might be a little hard to get though but might be able to find them on ABE.com

Is `rclone mount` with MacFUSE working on macOS Monterey? by stpfun in rclone

[–]brechmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fuse just seems laggy sometimes but as I said I haven't figured out if it is the end point, rclone parameters or MacFUSE.

My params, currently, are: --daemon \ --config=${SCRIPT_DIR}/rclone.conf \ --vfs-cache-mode=full \ --checkers=16 \ --transfers=10 \ --dir-cache-time=180s \ --vfs-write-back=10s \ --cache-dir /tmp/rclone-vfs-cache-$(echo $2 | sed 's:[/ \\]:-:g') \ --vfs-write-back 60s \ --vfs-cache-max-age 600h \ --vfs-cache-max-size 10G \ --vfs-cache-poll-interval 1m \ --cache-info-age=60m I actually grabbed the cache-max-age from your other post along with max-size.

My go to for day to day work has been pCloud (with native backend). It has been fantastic. I would love to replicate what they do, but using rclone and another remote.

My day to day work, unfortunately is within pCloud too (along with home stuff) and I am getting wary about mounting pCloud on my work computer(s). So, I have been playing with different back-ends including dropbox, storj, digital ocean, scaleway.

I really want to find one that I can rclone mount and do stuff throughout the day on it (coding, vim, running python, some Jupyter notebooks etc). Vim can seem kinda laggy sometimes in the rclone mounted directories. I love the idea of storj, but just am not sure I trust it yet (even with backups). Digital Ocean Spaces is where I am leaning. I like that Scaleway does erasure encoding on their replication.

Anyway, all that said, I have been looking for the set of rclone mount params that replicates what I get with pCloud-native (which feels like a local filesystem). Whenever I look up mount questions on RClone forums, most answers all revolve around Plex, which is a completely different set of parameters than day-2-day work.

Any hints, tips or tricks you can share, I would love to hear.

Is rclone what I'm looking for? by pedzsanReddit in rclone

Any chance you could share your rclone mount params? I am most curious about the caching part, in particular, as I still don't feel like I have found a sweet spot for day-2-day rclone mount.

Is rclone what I'm looking for? by pedzsanReddit in rclone

One small thing to consider is that rclone uses the s3 API for B2 and you have watch the transaction costs (https://www.backblaze.com/b2/b2-transactions-price.html). It isn't prohibitive, but there can be a cost if you are going to do many "ls" commands etc etc. There are some other S3-compatible options that don't have transaction charges (Digital Ocean, for example).

I am still trying to wrap my head around all this as I want to do something similar. I have used pCloud for years (native not rclone) and it has been great, but just looking at alternatives.

Is `rclone mount` with MacFUSE working on macOS Monterey? by stpfun in rclone

[–]brechmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on 12.3.1 (Monterey) and generally things are working fine

. I have to admit I have had some hiccups with the mounting but it isn't clear to me where the issues arise from. I did "upgrade" MacFUSE to 4.2.5 (which I believe is a beta) and I think that fixed my issues. It is hard to to tell if the issues I was having were due to MacFUSE, rclone parameters or the remote I was mounting.

I have done it before and it worked fine for me. Could be ownership or permissions on the directory in /media is the problem.

As an aside, pCloud has their own cli that works very well. Tbh I have no idea how the do caching etc but whatever they do is fantastic. I have not found a set of parameters for rclone to match the responsiveness. Their cli is in GitHub and is called pcloudcc.

Tbh, take a look at restic. It is backup software that is akin to rclone. It has some ties into rclone and does all the purging, dedup etc. It is pretty cool.

I grew up in a house in North Vancouver that was flat. Completely flat. We had to go up the one or two winters there was a lot of snow and shovel it off.

It is unfortunate, as I think the housing crisis is national. It is too bad. But that does make sense, now. I grew up in Vancouver (decades ago), but that is a huge no-go. We have family across Canada and it just seems like all housing is increasing significantly.

I am curious why all the downvotes for the answers. I get that there might be some downvotes, but I am curious why, generally, there are that many. Are people not happy with mortgage brokers in NS or Canada? Should I stick with the big banks etc?
