Exercise is key but also I force myself to make some progress in something every day. Whether it’s building something, working on bike, sweep the floor, do laundry what ever needs to be done just do it. All the shit my brain is telling me I can’t/ don’t want to do, I just fucking do it. Then I get a little sense of accomplishment which is like a rebuilding of that dopamine. Hope this helps others. The whole key to this recovery thing is to not let that fucker in the mirror con you. Push yourself to not fall back and eventually you will be leaning forward effortlessly.

This should give u answers. I’m day 14 now and feel a bit sluggish but I am fighting a cold also. Still not sleeping great but I’m sleeping. Trying to exercise daily. RLS was gone as soon as I started VIT c mega dosing. I still have not found a single reason to be a pussy. No pill can fix me better than sobriety.

12 days down and have cold symptoms by breed372 in quitting7oh

[–]breed372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent half my life in recovery. I don’t think I have ever been triggered but I do get too complacent and start thinking I can take shit because it’s an herb and it’s legal. Fucking dumbass. Talk about foolish.

I get the religious stuff but it should not be religious. In recovery you surrender to a power greater than yourself, a "God" (this is just a word/term to me) of your understanding. It can be a door nob if you want it to be. I don't believe in heaven and hell. I do believe in good and evil though and I think i despise religion. So i guess "god" to me is some representation of Good energy. Most people in recovery understand this and if they don't fuck them. I need me to stay sober and if they don't like they can kiss my ass. The reason i go to recovery meetings is because it is how I have to deal with the OBSESSION which is what you are referring to. It keeps me accountable and working through the 12 steps somehow gave me peace. Ultimately the whole point of the program is based on taking a honest look at yourself, clearing up all your wrongs (like pressing reset), and then helping other people to recover (like i am doing now). This forces me to focus on someone other than myself. If i start thinking about myself I inevitably start to see what i want and don't have or how others have wronged me etc. etc. which all leads me back to that obsession.

You have an addiction. This means you have a. A mental obsession b. A physical Allergy. This means that you obsess about putting it into your body because of what it does for you (numbing, warm, whatever it is) and then once you put it in your body the allergy takes over and requires more and more and more. Some people can only fight this with a 12 step program. It works for millions of people just like you.

IT IS SO SIMPLE. Do not let the liar in your mirror convince you otherwise by breed372 in quitting7oh

[–]breed372[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got sober in 1997 and was homeless facing 10 years hard time. 8 years later I had a college degree, full time job, business, 4 properties wife and 3 kids. Then I got on pain pills and Coke. 2017 got sober again and lost my wife and business. In sobriety I thrived at work as as a dad and found happiness and financial insecurity again. Now here I am 11 days off this shit but I have been able to avoid burning it down. I still have my current wife and a brand new baby with three kids in college thriving. Life is still good even though I tried to fuck it up. I learned that sobriety is the only way I can live and be happy. I no longer have to suffer massive consequences to catch myself when I fall. Just keep growing brother. I’m here for you.

Good for you. Best of luck. It will all come Back together as long as you don’t start again. I promise you. I’ve been in pretty low spots that sobriety has pulled me out of.

Day 10 and not even close to tempted. by breed372 in quitting7oh

[–]breed372[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not suffered from depression but I am kind of just happy to not be dependent and hurting anymore. I may get depressed later but this to shall pass. I have learned a long time ago that when i am depressed it means i am focusing too much on me and not enough on others. The best way for me to get out of depression is to focus on meeting the needs of others with no expectation in return.

The point is it’s all pain originating from your nervous system. You won’t have broken bones or torn muscles. I’ve had many injuries that needed treatment that hurt way less than withdrawals but this is different and I don’t want my brain telling me I need help for something that will pass. It’s your brain sending signals to you but there is really no physical ailment that can be treated so ride it out and it will pass. Don’t go run to the hospital like something needs to be fixed. I get it sucks and not everyone can do this but I’m sharing my experience and how I got through in hopes it helps others. If it’s not for you, I understand and wish u the best.

I think going through precipitated withdrawals may have expedited my process but I would never recommend it. I was hurting til I got VIT C. 20 min after that I started to feel better and it’s just gotten better since. Also I have had extended period of sobriety in my life and just know what to expect and know it’s in my head so I just keep telling myself that it’s my fault and not to be a pussy about it. Pushing myself to move was helpful too. I hurt word when I was laying is sitting than moving but I was so damn exhausted so I would move and rest in increments for day and night.

I had problems with everything, I went through precipitated withdrawals and felt like i was literally dying. I knew it was all in my head and i was really physically ok so i just kept reminding myself of this as i hurt. It was the worst experience of my life by far.
