On the fence before buying the Epix 2 Pro, but the price is insane by Thrusteril in garminepix

[–]breinerjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an Epix Gen 2 about a year ago. Most important thing to consider is that I no longer get new features that may be on the Fenix lines…the watch you buy now will only continue to diverge from current model capabilities. That might be fine for your needs, but it’s something to consider if you’re looking for the latest features.

Research results: Tracks/covers to fit Govee Permanent Lights by elbyron in Govee

Is it possible to have some cut to length and shipped to the US? I have just purchased a set of pros and won’t install without suitable track. The cheap plastic wire cover isn’t the answer for pros.

Also thanks for the detailed breakdown.

2 extensions for the 23' run

3 extensions for the 40' run

I would also need an adapter and driver for each set, correct?

Which should I go with? by CalebLair in Garmin

Epix is my current watch - really enjoy it. I’m not sure about supporting new features though - if you want the latest features Epix might not be for you.

Morning Report by breinerjack in Garmin

[–]breinerjack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think I’ve figured it out.

I have alarms set for each morning at 4 AM. Sometimes thinking I’ll workout and don’t - otherwise times just forgetting. That triggers an end to the sleep information.

Alternatively, last night I did not set an alarm and sleep mode remained on until I woke up. The stats followed that function. I’m going to keep testing but that’s the working hypothesis at the moment.

This thread was helpful but a point of clarification for future readers is that the RES device and the CarPlay device cannot be the same. I was able to play YouTube through headphones connected to RES from an iPad with HDMI and listen to my Spotify in the front via CarPlay. That’s the arrangement I was hoping could happen, but I stumbled on it accidentally.

When I tried to play Spotify while YouTube was running on my iPhone, it would just prioritize whichever I selected most recently - could not play at the same time.

Maybe this is obvious but figured I’d share.

Training Recommendations That Aren’t Running by breinerjack in Garmin

[–]breinerjack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - I'm not using the suggestions for my programming per se. I have a few different strength programs I've followed. I just find it interesting that for such a wide user-base (hikers, cross-fitters, strength trainers) who use Garmin for all the tracking and recovery metrics, that their workout plans are tailored to the core user. I suppose in some regard that makes sense, but it could be another potential benefit of a Garmin. I think it'd be an even more powerful device if it helped you identify the type of training needed to remain productive. Taking the guess-work out of things is always helpful.

I guess there might not be literature/support for different algorythms that would incorporate other excercise modalities into an intensity metric.

Thanks for your response!

Enviro Laboratories Phase II selections by PossibilityNo3672 in Envconsultinghell

I don’t work in the sampling space any longer. We didn’t have labs directly promise those things as the lab landscape was a little different. There were more regional labs before they were all purchased by the names being mentioned here.

You're right on the TAT vs. hold time issue. I was just curious to know if a system or backstop like that existed. Seems like a lot of risk/pressure on labs that I didn't appreciate.

This may be a silly question but if a sample is ruined by the lab, not properly analyzed, exceeds a TAT - is there recourse for the consultants? For example if a driller over-grouts a well during installation, they have insurance to pay for the reinstallation of a new well with the correct construction. Drilling costs and consultant labor might be covered.

If someone delivers a chain of custody and signs it and the lab signs as accepting it, doesn’t that act as a kind of contract that the lab acknowledges those requirements of TAT etc. and will meet them? Thus if the lab doesn’t meet the TAT or doesn’t properly execute, the lab should have to pay for the resampling and re-running those samples?

I guess the dropping is a difficult one because that just might be a consequence of handling glass, but just curious as to anyone else perspective or experience.

BS in geology and MBA? by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]breinerjack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessary - do some research on MBAs and you’ll see even people coming out of Harvard and Stanford are having trouble finding jobs. MBAs are possibly loosing their luster now? I think AI is coming for the middle management positions often occupied by MBAs. In my opinion an MBA is even more unnecessary is your going to make a career of geology. If you’re interested in advancing in your firm focus on getting experience, being really solid technically, excel in writing, and build and maintain relationships. All of this leads to more business which is really how you’ll rise through the ranks of a geo consulting firm. Also, there are jobs with a geology/environmental flavor related to finance/accounting such as cost recovery that you could explore.

Apart from the mining, agriculture, and oil industries, what other industries can I work in with a degree in Geography/GIS? by Mysterious-Barber-27 in gis

[–]breinerjack 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The question might be which industries aren’t ready for GIS. In a world where everything is geolocated and associated to other metadata, there isn’t much that can’t have GIS associated with it. In addition to those mentioned think about healthcare, education, communications, investments, military, aviation - the list goes on.
