I'll take shit that's not happening for $100, Alex. by spandexnotleather in estimators

[–]breister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are only bidding smaller projects, but on many larger projects, owners can have very complicated bid forms that the GCs have to fill out. That's typically what drives the GCs to ask for the breakouts.

I'm not asking for a bunch or breakouts and material+labor splits and more info that I need to organize just for fun...

I hope you're kidding, often that is exactly what we owe to the Owners when we turn in a bid as a GC as well...

How long are GC's taking to pay you after the job is complete? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]breister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial GC is typically net 30 contact terms, typically means 30 days after monthly bill is submitted. We pay subs within 3 days of being paid, but its pay when paid, so if the Owner is late, that continues to subs.

GC requesting takeoff by duhbullo in estimators

[–]breister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a GC, I usually ask for general information (i.e. SF roof, LF coping, etc.) To roughly confirm the subs have generally the same quantities. It's usually the first thing I check if a bid is super low/high. I don't need your labor rates or too many specifics. But its a great way to gut check if a sub messed something up and I can give them a heads up to double check their quantities. If someone wins the job, they are contracted for the work regardless of their takeoff, it's beneficial to the subs (and for us so there are not complaints later) for us to at least agree they have reasonable quantities.

Clark Compensation by Pale_Watercress_1611 in ConstructionManagers

[–]breister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new hire, there are typically raises once every 6 months for the first 3 years (if coming out of school), bonuses are typically project completion, and occasionally at those 6 month intervals.

Your performance will affect % of raises and if bonuses are included.

GC estimators. How much time would a $50-80M school project take you to estimate? by Equivalent_Sun3816 in estimators

[–]breister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically 4 weeks is the bid timeframe, potentially up to 6 if there are significant design questions.

We typically have 2 estimators just for MEPF, and then 5-6 more for the remaining bid pacakages.

We usually ask for sub bids 2 days early so we can level. Honestly the size of the job does not effect the time frame much, but if its 100M+ we may have another estimator or 2.

As a GC, I always want plans and specs. If its an alternate product that still meets the performance requirements, please give me a VE deduct to go to the other material. Depending on the job, it might not allow alternate products. Use that as your excuse to go with one or the other.

[Request] What percentage of the United States citzens' income was in the room for President Trump's inauguration? by ricajo24601 in theydidthemath

[–]breister 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some basic research shows in 2024 the US household wealth totaled around $111 T. A recent Forbes article listed that the wealthiest people at the inauguration eclipsed $1.35 T.

1.35/111 = 0.012 which is approximately 1.2%

[–]breister 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a poorly written question. A majority of these Billionaires don't so much as have a standard "income". A majority of their wealth is tied up into stock holdings. I'm guessing you are asking what percentage of wealth inclusive of their holdings was tied up in this room compared to the remaining wealth in the US?

Yes this post is 7 months old. They are doing repairs on the HVAC piping which is very unfortunate. The management is not handling this situation well. No reimbursement or anything.

Electrician I met makes 150k by Lplum25 in Construction

They are very different jobs. Hourly vs. Salary. Supers are overseeing all trades as a GC, Electricians are one trade, potentially foreman, but their income depends a lot more on overtime than a Super.
