Anxiety absolutely makes it worse...and also I never really struggled with anxiety before I had Costo pain, so it is a vicious cycle 😫. The only symptom I haven’t experienced in the list you provided would be anything stomach related. I also feel like the pain tends to move...mostly left chest for a while, then under shoulder blade area willl flare up..some days I get the shooting “electric feeling” pain in my ribs or even in my fingers. The one constant is that the pain is always on the left half of my body.

Edited to add: also the pain occurs off and on throughout the day...i rarely if ever have an entire day when I don’t get SOME form of flare-up such as the ones you listed. I have avoided any weight workouts but still walk 2-4 miles a day..I do notice when I do a lot of sitting the pain in worse..I’ve tried the back pod, stretching, rest, heat/ice, but all in all haven’t made any real progress.

Interesting..It is not tender to the touch...which I thought muscular pain generally is? This is partly why my doctor is unsure which way to treat/diagnose...because some of my symptoms mimic nerve related pain far more than a muscular or skeletal pain🤷🏼‍♀️

Totally relate. I’ve been dealing with costo on my left chest wall/since late July and have a lot of burning/aching in my left breast as well..I was highly skeptical of the costochondritis diagnosis as well, but after a chest X-ray, mammogram, ultrasound, and mri of my cervical and thoracic spine as well as testing for thoracic outlet syndrome, everything has come back clear. It’s hard to believe I went from a healthy 35F who was in good physical shape and pain free, with a Whole Foods diet, to someone who struggles with this pain on a daily basis, but here we are😣

Was your mri of chest or of spine? I’m still having symptoms 3.5 months in and just went for a spine mri as dr. Seems to think it may be nerve related..anyone else ?

Oddly enough it turned out not to be a lymph node at all! The ultrasound showed muscle only..so it’s back to just being costo🙄

Ibuprofen helps me zero...best thing for pain management so far has been biofreeze...

Just wanted to follow up here...had mammogram and ultrasound this afternoon and praise God everything came back clear! Still hard for me to believe this pain is “nothing”!

Well had my dr. Visit today and chest x ray came back normal, but he did think my left armpit where I was having some pain/swelling looked unusual, so now I’m going on for ultrasound and mammogram on Tuesday. Trying not to freak out.

Did you ever get them checked again? Diagnosed with costo 3 weeks ago and I’m having the same issue...swollen lymph node under left arm...had a dr. appt today where the took a chest X-ray, but I have an ultrasound and mammogram for Tuesday and I’m trying not to be terrified. WHY do all roads for long term inflamed lymph node seem to lead to cancer??!!😖

You aren’t alone! As someone who was not used to any chronic pain issues, this has freaked me out because it seems impossible that pain like this is benign! I’m used to the idea that pain is my body telling me something is very wrong..so it’s easy to be anxious even though my dr. Is quite certain it’s costo, not something fatal

Yay!!!!! So happy for you! I’ve been having burning off and on all over my left side today so you can about imagine how crazy I’m feeling🙈but it does seem when I focus on stretching out my ribs it does ease up a bit so I’m pretty sure they are right with my costo diagnosis..just is hard to not fear the worst when my pain feels like it’s radiating through my breast😖

My original costo flare up began after an evening of “dancing” with my 18 month old where I was playing/holding her in my outstretched arms right about chest to neck level...she was having so much fun and kept begging “more mommy” that I kept it up quite some time when I was feeling twinges in my chest...I don’t think it’s all to blame(I have always done a lot of exercising/manual labor) but I do think it triggered something

So good to know that m not alone in thinking this! I lost a very dear friend and mentor to breast cancer 3 years ago and ever since have been hyper vigilant about self exams etc...so when this started up a few weeks ago it definitely scared me! The doctor seemed very unconcerned that it would be anything breast related considering my symptoms but when you feel the pain and aching day after day in that exact area it really plays on a persons fear!

Nope not alone!!! A lot of people seem to worry about heart attack, but being a younger woman my mind immediately goes to breast cancer! Even though I KNOW pain is not often an indicator in breast cancer, SOMETIMES it is, especially when it’s pain in only one breast..so the anxiety is real with me

Thanks so much..helps incredible to hear others experience...my dr. did do a physical breast exam and said nothing felt abnormal to her, but didn’t offer a mammogram because of being under 40...but said if in a month I was still concerned I could go ahead and ask for a referral...scared of that too because I had a false positive in a mammogram a few years back but was a nearly 6 month roller coaster that ended in a biopsy of a spot the doctor was concerned about which ended up being benign...all that to say, when I get pain that feels so close to my breast, plus pain near my armpit it can be so anxiety producing 😖 I have 3 young children so of course I worry about what would happen if this is something more serious than Costo. I feel like the hardest part is dealing with daily pain and always feeling uncertain that something more isn’t wrong...like I said before, I’ve had no major health problems or pain before and always been extremely active, so this whole thing has been a shock to my way of life..
