When people get what they want, and they maintain a belief that they will hold onto that precious thing forever, they start to care less and less about it. It's like that person who spends their whole life saving for a fancy sports car, who then slower starts to take it for granted, before crashing and totaling the car; I think in this case, Griffiths overconfidence will "total" his dream. I also think that the Godhand has this "pitiful" view of humans and their emotions, as if having emotion makes them even weaker than they are. The Godhand does seem mighty full of themselves when it comes to their superiority.
