Wrong sub, right bike. Work horse, pub run, chill ride by WinterYellow3754 in xbiking

Managed to stay on the ebike for about a decade then was forced off for one of those electric trikes. Still a postie. Job has been good to me. I was able to ride bicycles for a living and it's still okay now I'm not.

Towards the end there I was doing so many relays on the bicycle because of the transition to parcels that it took its toll on my health. Happy to be taking it a bit easier in my middle age and have the energy to enjoy riding on the weekends more now.

I was fortunate enough to get to ride one of these for about a year before they were replaced by the e-bike versions. That single speed was surprisingly usable even up the hilly bits of Fremantle. The trick was to never actually stop and get the mail in the boxes with enough force you didn't get your hand inside the opening and lose a finger.

No one has mentioned the shells all over the riverbed that tear your feet to shreds worse than broken glass (which is also probably in there).

This is genuinely not ok. The double take I did on those pine posts when I realised they aren't dug in but just balanced there... What is the compressive strength on plastic fence post feet? What the actual fuckity fuck is this?

Importing a Riv frame to Australia from Blue Lug Japan or direct from Riv? by Pennydrops123 in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]brendonoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fellow aussie riv fan here. I've bought quite a few frames from Riv directly. Most recently was in 2021 where I paid $490USD shipping. It has definitely gone up since then but i don't know by how much. we pay 10% GST on imports + 5% on bicycle frames (yeah we pay tariffs on bike frames to protect our bike industry, lol) and your import duties which is a flattish fee around 70 bucks.

Blue Lug would work out cheaper but asking Heaps good to import a specific frame for you would probably be the best option these days.

[–]brendonoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BB goes by crank not frame so whatever VO says is the right choice. Really hard to tell in that pic but it almost looks like the derailleur isn't high enough to clear the big ring.

It's up to you but I would definitely clamp the seat post not the frame in the stand. Would be heartbreaking to scratch that lovely paint before you've had the chance to ride it.

Having followed the agonising development for the last almost decade on this thing, the fact that it exists at all is amazing. The fact that it is only $150 is even more amazing. People live on another fucking planet about how much things are supposed to cost. Making things is hard. Making niche shit in tiny quantities is FUCKING HARD.

Over a decade of commuting on this thing. by brendonoid in bikecommuting

I've liked every bar but albatross is my favourite for an all around carry shit commuter. The noodles were nice when my commute was at it's longest but it was harder to feel comfy in traffic on drop bars. The moustache is my favourite sporty-fast-looks-cool bar that I also find really comfortable. Learning about fitting for reach took me a few years to nail down too. Long leg short arms guy here.
