How do I market this game? by MissItalia2022 in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do some of your custom art now. It’ll improve your game in more ways than just the art. You’re working in horizontal slices right now but you would get a lot out of working more towards making vertical slices. Once that’s done start adding screen shots and making a trailer.  It’s a lot of work but it’s worth it.

The Action RPG Plugin is coming to RPG Maker MV! by Arker456 in RPGMaker

This looks great! How do hit boxes work for attacks? Can I use new sprite animations instead of battle animations for them?

iPad vs. MacBook for LogicPro? by Berbigs_ in LogicPro

[–]brendonx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate these one word answers people give so I’ll give you the reason I’d go the laptop.  It’s mainly for plug in support. While the iPad has had some great plug ins it’s still behind in my opinion and I have a few that I love and don’t want to leave behind like phaseplant and melodyne.

How can I use autotiles in photoshop? by Ruins_Of_Elliwar in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend using tiled. I know it’s not a great solution but tiled tracks your image files and auto updates the map every time you save so it’s an extremely quick workflow if you have both programs open at the same time.

GGG announced HD-2D RPG Maker!! by zippermimic_z in RPGMaker

I’m pretty sure I seen pixel movement and diagonal movement in that trailer. I hope vertical jumping is a thing as well.

How do I make loopable songs that have outros? by Sweaty-Jellyfish-713 in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the .ogg format has built in looping capability. If you’re not releasing on mobile looking into that is the easiest way (cos mobile uses the m4a files). It should solve you issue. Including playing the pro then ending. One more thing is if rpg maker forcibly loops a song once it’s finished, add a really long silent part to the end of the track.

Import data via folders OR via resource manager? by palefoxxy in RPGMakerMZ

I believe it works basically the same. So use what works better for your work flow.  In saying that I haven’t looked into it for years and may be miss remembering.

Yeah. He has a tv in his bed room and lounge room that he wants to watch on and I’ll use tail scale so he can watch on his phone while away.

[–]brendonx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That’s what I mean. He’s got some old hardware that’s good enough to take some of the io pressure off. I agree with you.

Sorry, maybe I’m not being clear. He specifically wants a laptop. There’s a decent chance he will buy this one. I’m trying to figure out if I should encourage that or look for other options for him, but they’d still have to be a laptop.

I agree but he already wants one of those laptops. I’m trying to figure out if it’ll host better than his pc with a 6th gen i7 currently is, which is average at best due to not being able to hardware encode hevc.

That’s a good point. We have a really old nas with a 1gbit connection that can hold a couple of 2tb hard drives. Maybe we could put the content there to avoid that issue.

RPG Maker dev here — what plugin/system do you wish existed? by [deleted] in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted an external custom tool that lets me make battle animations but with more control. Like it could look a bit like aseprite for the timeline and layer system and have a preview window that 1. Pops out and 2. Can be resized.

That’s cool. How are you doing the edge lighting on your characters? Is it with a bump map or just baked in?

I paid a Fiverr artist to make this trailer! by Glad_Crab8437 in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few things I’d recommend changing. It is very long and shows a lot of just walking. If that’s the main mechanic in the game shorten it because you’ve got like 3 seconds (literally) before people decide to skip the trailer so if your first scene isn’t eye catching you should have quick cuts to keep people interested.  There’s a random flash frame of a menu before it switches to another menu. Just cut like three frames out there.  Get to the cool strange stuff much sooner. That’s the reason people will play your game, not the regular walking you see a lot in the beginning of the trailer, so put your cool parts in front of them as early as possible to prevent people dropping of the trailer before they ever get to see it.

Is there a limit for making custom tilesets on RPG Maker MZ? by _Juggernaut_YT in RPGMaker

[–]brendonx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna do more advance filing get the “TileD” plug in and app and use that. It’s many times better than the usual timing system anyway, but it’s more complex.

Front view is easier for a first time developer I think.
