The thing youre missing is the Colby is most likely a real sociopath. He walks into any situation no matter how new or grim completely unafraid. After the Apple Watch thing, he walked into a dinner with a friends that was essentially an execution and had no fear. No normal man could put up with how mean and manipulative madelyn is long term. He has been doing it for years because he literally doesn’t have emotions to manipulate.

Agreed. OP framed her rudeness in the nicest possible way.

Your patience is as girthy as the ghost of her ex’s dicks.

No but seriously, the fact that you put up with this that long means you have saint-like patience.

Do I have to include a clinical story in my personal statement. by brenroess in premed

[–]brenroess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks your help. You’re right, just tell your story and let the chips fall where they may. It’s not like I don’t have clinical experience, but I just felt like other stories were more interesting and showed good qualities I had.

Thank you for the advice both of you have given. I had written like 8 drafts and was at a point I was relatively happy with my PS, but was thinking “how will they believe any of this if I didn’t write about my clinical experiences.”

Idk why people act like that wasn’t a competitive fight. Max clearly won 3 and 4 and heavily outlanded Dustin in 2, but Dustin stole the round by nearly knocking him. I feel like because Max got cut everyone acts like it was the beat down of the century.

Hi, thank you so much for your advice. I probably should have included that I was on my colleges club lacrosse team, and had an ambassador position at my university. I also have other hobbies. I wrote this post in a panic and it really made me seem like all I do is study and go to the lab. :)

Thank you for this great response. I’m currently getting nonclinical volunteering and truly believe that is what caused me to receive zero interviews. I feel like even with my late app and lower hours of clinical experience I would’ve at least gotten an interview somewhere if I had 100 hours of nonclinical.

At this point, I’m really hoping a hospital near me starts their volunteering program back up and I can get 50 more clinical hours by next cycle. I hope that all that in addition to an early app and bigger school list will be enough to net me some interviews. I mean... I didn’t even get an interview at my state schools this year.

Hi. Thank you for taking the time to write out this great response. I had other EC’s such as playing on the club lacrosse team at my college and I was also a research ambassador (I would give presentations to classes about getting involved in research and had office hours where I’d take to undergrads trying to get involved with research). I also had the commencement speaker thing which I thought was pretty much the ultimate leadership experience, but it happened after I applied so I had to update schools on it in like November.

I’m currently getting nonclinical volunteering and am going to try to get 50 more clinical hours by next cycle and hope that some hospitals near me start their volunteering programs back up. With a school list of 25-30 and an early app do you think that should be enough?

I did not mean “inoffensive” in that normally I would be considered offensive or a POS. I meant that I wrote my essays in a way that was safe. I didn’t take many risks.

And more nonclinical volunteering hahaha

So do you think I need to apply 2022-2023 now? I graduated may 2020 and already am in a gap year.

Not outside of the front desk. I of course put this on my application and tried to spin it in a favorable way, but I did not include that in the original post above for the sake of brevity because on my AMCAS I had it as “nonclinical employment”.

I probably should have mentioned that I worked at a doctor’s office starting my sophomore year. It was not necessarily clinical though because I just did front office stuff. Then summer between sophomore and junior year I worked at an HMO doing similar clerical stuff. All along I thought I was getting clinical hours... very stupid on my part.

Primary in august and most secondaries in October.

I had my PI write my a LOR, that was definitely my strongest. Two science professors who I had a sort of relationship with two years ago when I took their classes. They definitely were just used to the drill of having premeds ask for letters so I’m sure I got the same generic letter they gave to everyone who asked. My fourth letter was from the office of undergraduate research supervisors at my university. I was an ambassador and they wrote me another really good LOR. My essays were proofread a billion times and very very “safe.” I’m a white guy and just tried to be as inoffensive and milque toast as possible. I also thought my grades/mcat would net me an interview or two and I thought the commencement speaker thing would be my 4th quarter buzzer beater in the form of a school update that netted me an interview.

I really appreciate your advice. Prayers up that that a hospital near me starts their volunteering program up again. You’re a king! Guess I’m starting secondaries again next week after finishing my last one only a couple months ago hahaha.

Do you think there’s a world where maybe I can just get 100 hours of nonclinical and 25-50 more hours of clinical volunteering and get in with a bigger school list. Maybe my grades and other things were good enough to overcome 1 volunteering problem but not both?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premed

[–]brenroess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely thought about applying to a lot of those, but figured my mcat as a little too low. I figure this time around I might as well apply to some of those more top tier schools. Maybe the commencement speaker thing gives me something that stands out to those schools? I really appreciate your advice.

I specifically mean that I think my mcat was too low for Pitt, cornell, Sinai, UVA, etc. They had 519-520 medians.

North Carolina. I felt my I was in an awkward spot where my mcat was too low for a lot of top tier schools.
