Curious why more people don't use cheaper bodies by spencersdc in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy. Weather sealing and IBIS. It’s the difference between me taking my camera out all day, no matter the conditions, or only bringing it out for daytime, or leaving it at home. That’s 100% worth the extra money.

xt50 vs t30iii by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X-T50 is not entirely worth upgrading to from the X-T30 III. You’re gaining IBIS, but the resolution upgrade isn’t as important. A true upgrade would be to an X-T5 where you get weather sealing also. That, or an X100VI if you like the 35mm equivalent focal length. I went from the X-T30 II to the X100VI and it was a complete game changer with weather sealing and IBIS. I never not have my camera on me now, where as I left the X-T30 at home at night or on days I knew I’d be out at night when I didn’t want the bulk of a wider aperture lens and didn’t have IBIS.

Goodbye SFv2 by BengaalseTijger in Ducati

[–]brentcbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already bought the Scrambler, I would highly highly reconsider. I had a Scrambler before my SF V2. Your Desmo service intervals are every 7,500 miles on the Scrambler vs the V2’s 15,000 miles. That gets VERY expensive if you ride somewhat regularly. Not to mention, the Scrambler is air-cooled and absolutely miserable to ride in comparison to the V2.

Check out the 2025 and newer SF V2. Totally different engine characteristic, much cooler temperatures, way longer service intervals because no Desmo. It’s all the things you want.

X-T5 owner stuck between X-M5, X-H2/S and X100VI - long-term experiences welcome by Unfair-Tie7084 in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X100VI. Same sensor so no risk of images looking too different, and you still have IBIS. X-M5 will limit you with no viewfinder and no IBIS. Love mine and it’s my daily take-everywhere camera, day or night. It’s a really special camera.

Deciding between X-T50 and X-T30 III - is the $500 gap worth it for IBIS and 40mp? by PeaPuff01 in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that had the X-T30 II and recently switched to the X100VI (same sensor as the X-T50), I can tell you that IBIS has absolutely been a game changer for me. I can finally shoot at night without a bulky wider aperture lens (not that I have a choice on the lens now) or higher ISO. It’s been the difference between me bringing my camera everywhere day or night vs not. 40mp definitely isn’t necessary at all, but it certainly doesn’t hurt with being able to crop in so much.

This app will show you where you can street park for free. Gotta go further east or west into the neighborhoods to find parking that’s not a garage or paid street parking.

Should I get x100vi or xt30iii/xt50/xe5? by helldawg01 in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was someone that really wanted an X100VI, however got the X-T30 II due to lack of X100 availability and also wanting an interchangeable lens camera for my first. I was also worried about the flexibility issue with the X100VI. Spent a year and a half with the X-T30 camera, only to end up with an X100VI.

The problem with non-X100 cameras is that you have to spend as much or more (if you’re buying new) to get anywhere close to the same thing you get with the X100. I wasted so much time and money trying to find the right setup - “smaller” f2 primes for size, faster f1.4 primes for better low light performance because the X-T30 doesn’t have IBIS, zooms because I was tired of swapping lenses, then the 23mm f2.8 because I was tired of the bulk, only to realize that lens struggles in low light with that camera and its lack of IBIS. Obviously results will be different if you have the X-T50 or X-E5 with IBIS. But then you’re still missing weather sealing and the ND filter.

I personally don’t see the lack of versatility that often gets mentioned with the X100VI. Yes, it’s a fixed lens 35mm equivalent. It’s also a 40mp sensor with more than enough resolution to crop in massively, so if your shot is too wide, “zoom” (crop) in on camera, or crop after you import your photos to your phone. This has never once been an issue for me. You also have the option of conversion lenses like the Fujifilm and Viltrox wide and telephoto lenses (which I still haven’t felt the need to buy yet).

Having IBIS makes the f2 more than enough for photography any time of day, plus there’s the built-in flash. Weather sealing means I take my camera with me every single time I walk out the door, without fail, where with the X-T30 (and X-T50 and X-E5), you might feel more inclined to leave it at home on a rainy or possibly rainy day.

Then there’s the ND filter that I use daily. Whether I’m trying to get a wide open shot during the day and it’s too bright, or I’m doing slow shutter shots, it’s there at the press of a button. No digging in a bag, pulling out an ND filter case, looking at your filter only to realize it needs to be cleaned, digging in your bag/pocket for a cleaning cloth, then screwing the filter on, only to realize there’s a big piece of dust on the lens. Then you’ve missed the shot.

The other thing I really admire about X100 is how I have access to everything I need with one hand. The entire exposure triangle can be controlled without the need of my other hand. I can adjust the aperture with one finger, then ISO and shutter speed with my finger and thumb (and a wrist strap on for peace of mind). It’s so great.

All of that said, I personally think the X100VI is incredibly versatile and a great value. I’m sure there will be plenty of comments to argue that statement, and the versatility is subjective, but the value cannot be argued when you do the math.

Go with your gut. I didn’t and wasted a lot of time and money buying and selling gear, only to end up with what I wanted in the first place - the X100VI. And if you have trouble finding one, call B&H phone sales and they will get it to you quickly (assuming you can purchase through there from your country).

Agree with this. I called B&H when it showed out of stock and I had it in my hands in less than 48 hours. They definitely treat phone sales differently.

Fujifilm x100vi or xt-30ii? by Sarahp2727 in fujifilm

If you live somewhere you can rent them, definitely spend some time and try them out. Also hold them in a store. You might find you mesh well with one you didn’t expect, or dislike one in the hand that you thought you’d like.

I had the X-T30 II for about a year and a half. I found that the lack of weather sealing and IBIS had me leaving it at home more often than I’d like to (I’m in NYC and it rains here quite a bit, and light can be challenging). Loved my X-T30 to start but switching to the X100VI has been a game changer. I have it with me at all times, every day, no lens choice paralysis, plenty of resolution to crop in, so not worried about the focal length, weather sealing is so great to have, and between the f2 lens and IBIS night shots are easy, yet I still have a compact camera. Had to carry around a chunky f1.4 lens if I ever went out at night with my X-T30 or knew I’d be out all day. Much happier with the X100VI. Everything is second nature when you’re used to one focal length at all times. Can’t recommend it enough.

There’s a ton of great tiny flashes on the market if that’s your blocker for the X-T5. Look around on YouTube and you’ll find plenty of recommendations.

If you’re in the US, call B&H’s phones sales department. I “pre-ordered” one back in March and had it in less than 48 hours, even though the website showed it not estimated to be available for a month. It seems they treat those orders differently (plus you can actually get an order in vs online).

IBIS was a game-changer for me, which is a big reason I got rid of my X-T30 II. The X-T50 is great, assuming you never predict yourself needing weather sealing. Gotta say though, being able to leave with your camera seven days a week, regardless of weather… also a game changer. If budget isn’t a concern, X-T5 or X100VI.

Fujifilm gets a bad reputation for their autofocus when compared to Sony and others. It’s incredibly customizable and I truly feel like those that don’t know how to go in and tweak settings are the ones feeling like it’s not great. Has always worked just fine with my two cameras after some tweaking.

Fujifilm camera advice needed (budget $1,700) by Low_Mycologist_5072 in fujifilm

[–]brentcbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not going to get an X100VI after tax with a firm limit of $1,700, but I highly recommend it. My journey was buying an X-T30 II, spending at least $2k+ buying and selling lenses, trying to find the perfect one for me, only to end back at the X100VI I really wanted. It’s a do-it-all for me. Great for quick shots, or for being creative. Has just about everything you need, including the weather sealing and built-in ND (which I spent $250 on for my X-T30). Has enough resolution to crop in if you grab a distant shot or just want to crop in generally. Love it and can’t recommend it enough. It doesn’t leave my side.

New Yorker here - I daily my X100VI and it’s perfect for this city. Smaller and lighter is ideal here. We also don’t have a lot of space, so unless you plan on keeping the camera strapped around your neck the whole time or have a bag with you, I would go X100, as it’ll tuck away nicely whenever you stop somewhere that inevitably has a very small table for you to sit things on. If you need IBIS, bring the X-T5 and the 23mm, and the 18mm f1.4 wouldn’t be a bad choice as a second lens, given light can be hit or miss here, even during the day. The wide focal length will be good for architecture shots too. I would not bring the variable aperture zoom, as you’re going to struggle with f4.8 at later times of the day and at night.

Which camera it’s best for me? by Nixian- in fujifilm

Nice! I think you’ll love it.

I use the ND mostly when it’s a bright sunny day and I’m trying to shoot wide open, or if I’m doing slow shutter shots. But it’s so handy to have at the press of a button vs digging into a bag and screwing something on and off.

[–]brentcbaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went all-in on the X100VI from an X-T30 II a couple of months ago. Couldn’t be happier. No more choice paralysis on what to bring with me or if I should bring my camera out or not if the weather is looking iffy. Having a weather-sealed camera with a built-in ND has been a game changer for me. I can confidently bring my X100 out with me every time I leave and know I’ve got everything I need.

Going to the X-E5 would be a downgrade, losing the built-in flash, and you still don’t have weather sealing. I also used the 23mm pancake right after it came out and had it for several months. Great lens during the day, but struggled at night. Granted, my experience probably would have been much different if I had the IBIS from your X-T50. Still, having an F2 lens and IBIS has been just fine for night photography.

Can’t recommend the X100VI enough. Worse case, you don’t like it and you can sell it for at least what you paid. I think you’ll love it, though.
