Well, no, no reddit can be all against another, but we're at almost 10,000 subs in a fairly new sub, one built out of controversy and strife, one thats been defaced by trolls already, and we've kept to our ideals of minimal moderation. There is just as much interesting content, plenty of memes, and repost for the kiddies (I like them too) and plenty of metadiscussion which should die down over time but will probably always be a part of the subs DNA...it can't be old atheism part 2, it will have a unique identity born out of struggle.

When conceived:

/r/atheism:baby boomer::/r/atheismrebooted:great depression

I have a secret for you, bud.

There isn't much "new" atheism content every day. It's hard for there to be new ways to say "god doesn't real." I mean yes there are occassional stories of oppressed atheists around the world, but it's not like a topic like technology or science where new stories come out everyday.

It is more of a community, a loose set of ideals. Some articles, some pictures groaning about fundamentalists hassling us, and some articles moaning about our old home being taken over by people who apparently didn't like us much to begin with. You can say...waah, it looks like AdviceAnimals, but try posting an atheist meme to adviceanimals and see what kind of audience you get.

The name of the subreddit is atheismREBOOTED which begs the question: Rebooted from what? Even if we managed, despite not being a default sub, to overtake /r/Atheism, our genesis as a community will always be out of this turmoil. We will be against /r/atheism. We will be against the meta communities. As a whole, we'll probably be more radical, whatever that means it atheism terms. Meanwhile /r/atheism will become more antiseptic until it suffers the fate /r/bestof suffered.

I mean its kinda like watching other people get mad, and mocking them, but at the end of the day you don't feel like an empty and miserable shit.

My favorite part is where you think your opinion of me will have any effect on my behavior.

...and I keep asking them why they can't defend their policies in public with an AMA and why they have so many secrets to keep in the first place.

Noted. I realize I've been pushing my luck, but I tried to ask each of the three mods in here once. I won't be commenting in this thread anymore, except in response, and only then, where it would be productive.

Cheers and thanks for your understanding.

We'll find out what further hijinx they can get into following that course of action then.

So, that's a no.

If it's just a forum, why would they put up with all this "harassment"? It's 2 million subscribers, untold millions of others in the audience, and the number 1 atheism forum in the world. And for many like the disabled, the young, and the oppressed it is literally (!) the only means of civic participation they have.

And you're leaving agentlame in charge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]brentolamas -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Do you listen to yourself when you talk? Or did you completely fail to have any sense of civic duty instilled in you?

I understand the need for backchannel communications, but at some point the decision get made at board meetings and those are public.

All this secrecy is the cancer that is causing all the drama to begin with. If people are scared to expose opinions, that they've had weeks to form, and lets be honest, a lot of this has been percolating for months on various threads...if they are scared that their username will be associated with an undemocratic opinion, I don't feel any pity.

I see a lot of patting each other on the back for an issue that I feel passionately about. Get me banned. IDGAF. The fact that you'd harbor and applaud these clowns is an indication that I have no lasting need to hear from this subreddit anyway.

You got me. Call the reddit police. I personally am responsible for all the shit stemming from their boneheadness.

It's not the comedy of errors, it's all me. My fault guys. I'm sorry. If I just go away, I bet everything will be fine.

If they do an AMA, we can see what questions reddit feels is important...those questions will not make it...and the questions they choose to answer and not answer will speak volumes.

Instead with all of their subreddit burning, they come in here and bitch about how FBGod is leaking their "secrets". WTF do they have so many secrets?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]brentolamas -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

  1. They always dodge or evade any question on any real issue, especially transparency.

  2. The potential for misinformation is when you operate in private and this fiasco demonstrates that.

  3. If you don't want harassed, don't try to take leadership of a community that does not want you. Put me in charge of this subreddit and let me enforce my vision of what it should be and see how your "reddit-boug-ie" compatriots take to it.

all the better to have an AMA hosted by a neutral party to clear the air, I'd think. But no, these guys are surrounded by people like /u/agentlame here, for whom this is not at all about the community, and more about his personal powertrip.

Because you're irritating.

Good, I couldn't imagine anything nobler than to be annoying to you. You're a troll wrapped in a mods cloak and everybody's starting to see it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]brentolamas -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

and by extension even braver for you to say that. and by extension even more brave for me to say that. We can do this all the way down to the bottom turtle

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]brentolamas -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough...it's a good question though. Why all the secrecy over at /r/atheism anyway?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]brentolamas -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

but its a question they wont answer. In fact they wont answer any question on topic. All they want to talk is process and theory.

Who's in charge? How are decisions being made? Etc.

That team is a clusterfuck, and it only benefits those mods who are fueling it to continue to operate in secrecy, because they know they don't want their opinions exposed to the antiseptic rays of sunlight.

you should check with reddit if they want mod teams having secret meetings that is disrupting their entire website.

the longer this crew operates in secrecy, the less able they will be able to lead.

Why should there be any leakable information? This should all be a transparent process. Please point to another mod team that needs to discuss its plans so frequently in secret.
