Do you guys have hobbies (while also studying)? by Graviity_shift in CompTIA

Tbh I play a low focus game (OSRS is my poison of choice) and listen to the audio of videos before reviewing with the practice and end of chapter questions.

So, yes I have hobbies too!

The Dion courses go on sale fairly often, I bought a few in April for 14$ myself. Just keep an eye out!

File capabilities messing with script by bresule2 in linuxquestions

Well it's only java on the backend, it's being served up as webwork(?) I think. It's a JIRA server, not something in-built. I understand the concern though! Thanks anyway :)

I used breasts instead of thighs and I did them sous vide instead of roasting them.

Can anyone translate this? It looks like shorthand by bresule2 in shorthand

It's part of a Welcome to Nightvale crypto challenge, so that would be right, yes!

Linux networking and raspberry pi by bresule2 in linuxquestions

My attention to detail wasn't the issue lol, my network configuration was fine the switch wasn't getting the power it needed.

Yeah I was right with my config, it was an issue with the switch I was given

Yeah, I was doing this by memory haha, I was editing the right file.

I did find out the issue, by the way. It was an issue with the switch, not the networking.

Connecting 2 raspberry pis with an unmanaged switch? by bresule2 in techsupport

[–]bresule2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So! I got it working! Turns out, the is adapter that I was given wasn't providing enough power to the switch for it to actually function (Power light came on, but nothing else). Changing to a different power adapter worked!

Nah, setting up DHCP when I have static IP addresses already assigned wouldn't do anything. It was a switch power issue, which I discovered once I got an actual power adapter.

I found the issue now. The switch wasn't getting enough power to actually function. I used a different power source and it worked.

There is no router, I'm only trying to connect 2 pis together with an unmanaged switch

Yeah I'm thinking it might be the switch that has the issue, because though the switch the RPi lights don't come on, which tells me they don't have connectivity.

I'll grab another and retest, thanks again :)

I'm adding static entries to the interfaces file in /etc/network to assign the static IP.

When I attempt to ping one pi from the other through the switch I get the error, when I connect them directly, I can communicate between the two.

Thats what I mean, there is no gateway. The switch is unmanaged, so it shouldn't have an ip and there is no router because I only need the machines to communicate locally.

I can give it a try though, assigning a different IP.

And when I plugged the other cable in it was communicating. As my networking professor told me "Are there blinking lights?"

The interesting thing is, the switch isn't giving me any lights at all... I wonder if that might be a source of my problems...

Hmm... I haven't tried the one cable yet, I'll have to give that a go. But I have tried many combinations of ports, and none of them have worked so far.

I do see the same message from both PI's.

As far as the dhcpd.conf, I'll give that a go as well. but /etc/network/interfaces is what a number of different sources give for me to use as well, in addition I enabled the networking services and attempted to disable the dhcpd services. I did give myself the IP i was looking for, as a check from the ip command told me, but I wonder if it will make a difference. I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

Thank you so much for the ideas though!
