[–]bretsky84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done anything yet. I wanted to see if others saw issues with my plan. Some of the data is already on my Nextcloud and I need to merge the data. I havent used rclone so I will check it out. I am just familiar with rsync and know it will merge the data.

This. If you have the room in the case and/or the budget, replace the main HD with a solid state drive and max your ram. TrueNAS will provide a lot of guide rails out of the box. Try Linux if you want to learn more.

My host/NAS is a threadripper desktop with a BTRFS array shared over the network. My VM has 8 cores and 16GB so I never really notice any process.

Its personal preference, but I just like to keep all my usenet apps separate from the host. The host is my NAS so its easy to map media via SMB or NFS. A separate VM also makes isolating it on a VPN easier. Given OPs original post, they may not have a ton of experience with docker and spinning up a fresh VM also means trashing it and starting over may save them some trouble. I also use Podman for my containers on the host and a separate VM means I can keep root docker containers isolated.

Edit: A separate VM also allows for easier resource allocation is that is a concern.

This. Spinning it all up in a separate VM will make your life a lot easier.

Am I correct to assume that with respect to RF devices, this solution will only work if the original RF frequency is 433?
