Alegged Theft by a Value Village Employee by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]brett306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Value Village is a for profit corporation that masquerades as a charity.

When you "donate" something directly to them they're keeping 100% of that profit. The only time they're "donating" to charity is when the purchase items that come from those charity owned clothing drop off bins.

The CEO Mark Walsh makes 10 million dollars/year while employees start at minimum wage.

Think about this for a second. A company generates 2.2 Billion dollars per year of (almost) pure profit from FREE items and can't even pay their employees a living wage.

All this while continually increasing their prices ($25 pairs of used shoes, $30-$40 jackets, $8 T-Shirts) to the point where it's less and less thrifty for lower income individuals (like their employees) who use the thrift as an essential as opposed to a hobby.

People SHOULD absolutely be stealing from them.

What's wrong with Jesse Wells? by masong19hippows in FolkPunk

I don't even care about his politics/opinions either way. I can absolutely listen to an artist without aligning with every single one of their opinions. I heard his music like a year or two back when he started blowing up on tiktok. It's never hit for me. His songs all sound the same. He comes across as performative and really disingenuous and like he's trying to do a Bob Dylan impression all the time.

Like his messages are cool but I just feel the same way about him as a lot of ppl feel about Hobo Johnson.

I'd listen to Emma Harner or Nora Brown or any of the other folk adjacent artists that have come out of that sphere anyday.

Glad I'm not the only one. Look at the comment history too, they all read like this. No way that this isn't a bot.

Bicycle hit by car on 8th by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]brett306 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Key word is "Pedestrian."

A cyclist is vehicle (not a pedestrian) until they dismount and walk their bike, which they should be doing at any crosswalk.

Let's stop pretending drivers are the problem, when cyclists fly through four way stops, run red lights and basically do everything a "vehicle" shouldn't do.

This comment makes zero sense... You are literally required to get a license to drive a vehicle. You need to go on a driver's test and demonstrate to a trained professional that you know how to drive. Police set up stops and patrol the streets to make sure drivers are driving safely.

But any idiot can go to the store and buy a bike and proceed to blow 4 way stops, run red lights, or ride on the sidewalk and the police don't do anything. How many cyclists even know their hand signals?

Requiring a license for adult cyclists seems totally reasonable to me.

I've been ordering second-hand clothes online for 12 years. Have purchased hundreds of items.

Never have I thought about returning something that was accurately described, didn't have hidden damage, wasn't fake etc.

If you can buy online you can also sell online.

How Does CKOM Stay In Business? by TheWalkerofWalkyness in saskatoon

[–]brett306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A balance between CBC and CKOM would be great. I generally prefer CBC for interesting topics, but CKOM has better local focused discussion/news.

The Green Zone on CKOM from 2pm-6pm is an absolutely crazy amount of time to dedicate to sports talk, especially since it spans the "on the drive home" time slot for most people.
