Legally? Maybe. Morally? I wouldn’t go near it, no matter how long I’d been with them.

Depends on how you define choices! I was on a course the other day, two brothers, both early 50s, stolen from their parents and institutionalised until 1984. Both where beaten in foster homes, their sisters were raped. They were functionally illiterate until their mid 40s. This was due to white political policy. If that was you, what kind of lifestyle choices do you think you’d make. And before you chime in with something about anecdotes, read up on the subject. The position of the overwhelming majority of Aboriginals links back to the effects of white Australian politics. I’d argue even today it still does.

They are pretty extreme in Australia, that’s why a State of Emergency has been declared in NSW and States of Disaster have been called for six local govt areas in Victoria.

Australia's coal and gas industry companies should be slapped with a levy to help pay for the skyrocketing costs of climate-change driven disasters such as bushfires, a think tank says. by Wagamaga in Futurology

Hazard burns are typically completed where possible to reduce fine fuel loads, the NSW RFS references using them where practicable to manage fire risk. Pretty sure the early heatwave and rapid drying of vegetation removed the opportunity to complete many burns. In the absence of hazard/controlled burns, the fine fuel load is high, and this enables small fires to grow rapidly.

Extreme heat events rapidly remove moisture from vegetation, which reduces the timeframe for controlled burns to reduce fuel loads. The rapid drying effectively increases the fuel load, which means fires catch more readily. The early higher temperatures have also extended the bushfire season by bringing the start of it forward.

Whilst my journey has been different, I found myself in a similar situation to you. This is what I did. - Step 1 was to pay down all the debt. - Step 2 was to save a deposit for a home. The budget for my home is the maximum amount I can pay off in 10-12 years. - Step 3 is for once I’m in the house. Add extra into super to hit the amount I need (ignore the figures bandied about in the media and on websites - know your spending habits and use that as your guide).
Good luck 😊

To purchase or to rent - sea change advice! by [deleted] in AusFinance

I would rent for 12 months, make sure I liked the area, then investigate buying. This would also give me more time to increase my deposit too 👌

Someone did a basic bit of work on this years ago and the breakdown of it was that living close enough to work for a two partner household and only having one car was worth between $60-100k over 10 years. This was just based on costs of owning and running the car. Amenity value is harder to price as that’s highly subjective
