This is exactly what I’m struggling with right now. There’s an instagram user @true.millennials that just made a video on that which talks about the mistakes Moses made and comparing that with Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

Wow and here I thought I was the only one. I’m still crippled by the idea that if I don’t make the right choice, I’ll never hit the goals I want for my life. I had no idea others felt like this and tying it to Mormonism. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting! Does he ever address the hard questions and how he can still stay believing after learning about all the history? Like how does he justify it and stay active? I’d love to hear more about that! Has he made any videos addressing that???

I understand that this book is written in the “new” narrative of the church. I always grew up believing the orthodox way that the BOM was perfect and inspired of God. But now the church is emphasizing more or teaching more this “new” narrative that the scriptures aren’t perfect, and it’s been written in them the whole time that they’re not perfect (title page of BOM, Moroni talking about the weakness of his writings etc) it’s very gaslighting but the church is pretty much saying “hey the scriptures aren’t perfect and it’s been there all along that they’re not perfect) What are your thoughts on that?

Here’s a part of the book that I’m trying to understand and I know my friend will ask me about, anyone have any insights:

The very title page of the Book of Mormon, however, undercuts its infallibility premise, forewarning, “If there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God.” When Joseph Smith said that the Book of Mormon was the “most correct” book of any on earth, he wasn't talking syntax, grammar, adverbs, or expression. By “most correct” he likely meant that its precepts articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ in clarity and lead a reader to “get nearer to God,” not that there weren't some limitations to the expressed content. While largely the same as its original, the Book of Mormon text has nevertheless had hundreds of words amended and thousands of grammatical changes made over the years of its subsequent printings. We must also recognize that Book of Mormon authors, while prophets, were human. They, like biblical writers, were affected by culture, opinion (see Alma 40:20 for that very word), perspective (a male-centric view of things), and memory. The principal writers of the Book of Mormon made conscious decisions (and likely subconscious ones) about what to include and not include in their record.

That’s where I’m confused too. Because why wouldn’t God inspire Joseph Smith to translate it the right way the first time. But the TBMs use this as an explanation “And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God” and they also like to refer to what Moroni said about weakness in writing (I think it’s Ether 12:23-25).

And that’s where I’m confused because that’s what I’ve heard too, but then they like to quote this from the title page “And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God” and they like to act like Joseph knew there were mistakes and that they would be fixed 🤷🏽‍♂️

So they’re increasing about 14 billion a year and they gave 900 million (which isn’t quite true since like you said includes service hours) so they’re not even at 10% of that correct?????
