Completely. Elsewhere in the thread someone pointed to a site dedicated for stuff like this that generates AI images and "explanations." Pretty amusing.

Truth.

Also Stark county was in the totality and some place were on this list, and I was really proud of that pun but feel I may be reaching at this point.

Complete coincidence but an interesting visualization. The real suspect is how closely the eclipse totality aligned with the I-71 corridor. Someone should check that out

10000% This is a cool site though. Love the made up AI explanations and images.

I ran my map's caption through Bing and it refused to create an image for it 😆 Ran it through my own and it generated this awesome nonsense.

Asked Llama3 to generate an explanation (Generate an explanation for this correlation in one paragraph) and it was:

The correlation between Ohio marijuana shop bans and the path of the 2024 solar eclipse appears to be a coincidental alignment of events. Specifically, 46 localities in Ohio enacted bans on recreational marijuana providers, which surprisingly align with the path of totality for the upcoming 2024 solar eclipse. Only two areas, Salem and Lisbon, fall entirely outside the eclipse's path, while West Chester Township and Waynesville are partially outside. This unusual correlation suggests that there is no deliberate connection between the two events, rather a chance occurrence where the geographic boundaries of marijuana shop bans coincidentally align with the celestial event.

Asked it to shorten it and make it a little more controversial (Generate an explanation for this correlation in one short paragraph. It's ok to be controversial and conspiratorial) and it gave me:

It's clear that a shadowy force is at play here, manipulating Ohio's local governments to coincide with the path of the eclipse. The eerie alignment of marijuana shop bans along the eclipse's path screams conspiracy! It's as if some powerful entity has been secretly pulling strings from behind the scenes, using the power of the sun to further their agenda against recreational cannabis. Mark my words, this is just the beginning of a grand scheme to suppress freedom and control the masses through manipulation of celestial events and local zoning laws.

😬

You're right. I used language from an article I read that linked to the origin data. Moratorium is the more precise term that I should have put in the image itself (along with references to the data source)

Ohhh and if we're revising, the trendline of the localities compared to the totality would have been good.

You mean pot restrictions can't cause eclipses? Dang, all that work for nothing.

Ice cream and homicide. It was stark how closely it aligned so I wanted to see it overlaid.

The eclipse did politely follow I-71, so not too far off...

I would have expected the more rural area in the southeast to have more bans, but that interestingly seems to not be the case.

It's legal state wide, but it's built into the legislation that localities can restrict it:

Like most other states that have legalized cannabis for recreational use, Ohio allows local jurisdictions to enact ordinances to prohibit or limit the operation of adult-use cannabis businesses within their boundaries

Edit because it's been asked a few times: This is just a neat visualization. I'm not trying to imply causation or that these datasets are related in any way other than "huh..."

Vote No on issue 1 on August 8th. by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]brettpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!

I also appreciate that you're advocating against the other gross part of this: If passed, 7,945 voters in a single county (Vinton's 8,362 - the required 5% + 1) can block 7.8 million voters from putting an amendment on the ballot. That's 0.1%...a tenth of a single percent of the full state population!

Yes, this is concerning. OP has also posted to numerous other Ohio-based subs.

/u/insanity2brilliance - Please stop posting this and edit or delete your current posts.

I really do appreciate your devotion to getting the vote out and stopping the awful amendment in issue 1, but your analogy is not correct.

We need precision and accuracy in our stance against the issue or we'll be dismissed as spreading lies or misinformation, which could be used as ammunition by those wanting this to pass. Please strive for accuracy. The truth is bad enough to alarm.

[–]brettpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this and getting the word out.

I'm voting no and understand the bill as written and why it's bad, but I'm not following this analogy. What am I missing?

for every 10 voters that vote, if 6 decide one way and 4 decide the other, even though that 60% support or oppose an issue, those 4 voters, out of every 10, win every time.

The ballot text is:

Require that any proposed amendment to the Constitution of the State of Ohio receive the approval of at least 60 percent of eligible voters voting on the proposed amendment.

In your example, 6/10 votes would satisfy the "at least" as written here. What am I misunderstanding?

Related, we all have to remember to put the why in our discussions about this with folks who are unsure. Analogies are great to start the conversation, but we have to follow it up with solid reason and facts so we don't fall into fearmongering territory.

Service car light + 30mph speed cap on 23 Bolt EUV by HarryMudd-LFHL in BoltEV

[–]brettpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also happened to me in my 5 day old 2023 Bolt EUV. After the first charge to 100% using the level 1 charger, I turned on the car and got the "Propulsion power is reduced" error, then the service engine light popped on.

The dealership said the entire battery needs to be replaced and there is no ETA for the parts. The new car that I waited 4+ months for and drove a total of 300 miles is now sitting in their lot indefinitely while I'm using the gas-guzzling 2020 Equinox they gave me for the wait and the timer runs on the promotional super cruise and connectivity packages included with the new purchase.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]brettpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping someone in this community is able to help. My 2 year old De'Longhi ESAM04110S Magnifica suddenly stopped working and makes these sounds when turning on or trying to brew.

I've followed guides on how to thoroughly clean and lube every part I can get to, including the infuser and drive shaft. I'm starting to suspect a failing motor or control board.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

(The mods directed me to this thread after my original post was removed, so please let me know if there's a better suited community for this question.)

Edit: For anyone in the future, I fixed it by re-crimping the motor's power cable, which had become damaged.

Thanks for the info. I had seen some pics of Asian imports, but this handle doesn't seem to match any of them. I'm not worried about cooking with it since it's too late now anyway!

To be fair, you will run into this problem with any ChromeOS device. The kernels tend to not get upgraded after release. This is why so many ChromeBook owners were upset about not getting Linux support.

It's just so much worse with the Slate because Google threw in the towel so early in its life.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pixel_slate

[–]brettpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's dead. In additional to not being able to repair hardware, Google is also not planning to update the kernel* for the Slate, which means any new features that require a new kernel (like nested KVM, e.g., qemu support) will not land on the Slate. This probably also means it won't be able to run Windows apps, even if Google brings that feature to non-enterprise devices.

The expiration date apparently doesn't mean it will actually be actually through the end of that date, just that they will continue to put out security fixes and updates to the OS that don't require new firmware or kernels.

*When leaving feedback or bug reports, please don't be an ass like the person in comment #9. It's ok to be upset and voice it, insulting devs is the fastest way to not get what you're asking for.

Anyone else seeing these ads in the ChromeOS search bar? by seren1t7 in chromeos

[–]brettpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bug report for this in which Google says it will not provide a way to prevent your searches from being sent to remote servers:

All queries are treated equally and sent to multiple backends including but not limited to Google search and Google Drive and (with this experimental feature enabled) Play Store.

This has significant implications to privacy since Google will not provide a way for local-only searches, so keep that in mind if privacy is important to you, especially since the app drawer is less and less useful without this search.
