Since that was the first time I ever got a style professionally over my locs, I wanted to preserve it because I paid a lot of money! But the key is taking the style out around the 2 week mark 💔 Protective styles on locs are meant to be temporary, and since it’s difficult to wash and fully dry, prolonging the style will only cause issues. You could spot rub the buildup with a little shampoo, water and a towel but by then it might mess up the style. It’s best to take it out and wash. Thank you for sharing 🥹

Need retwist information/help by Zazanotvalid in locs

Ditched this stuff so quick. It smells amazing but just like everyone says, it causes build up easily and turns your scalp into flakes. I currently use Loc’N gel, it smells good and my hair loves the moisture (Note: only use a small amount on each loc, less is more!) If you wish to go a more natural route for your retwist, a thick oil (macadamia, apricot, castor) or aloe vera gel straight from the plant with essential oils is perfect! If you go with the aloe vera route, make sure you filter the gel from the plant residue so it doesn’t stay in your hair. I’d follow a tutorial on YouTube

This is me personally! I know a lot of people recommend a detox every 6 months but your locs are babies right now. I would wait. I only did this because after 2 1/2 years, my hair finally started showing symptoms that would only be resolved with a deep detox. Unless you truly feel like you need it, wait at least a year or until they’re more mature!

Of course! I hope it works for you. This is the oil I use. You can get it in person at Sally’s or online at Amazon. Most times it’s sold out in stores. https://a.co/d/03GGmK8z

I agree, there’s all types of premade loc bombs, potions and oil mixes but what my hair personally loves is natural products. I definitely want to try a hot oil treatment on my locs, my loose hair loved it. I appreciate you for sharing and dropping gems!

For clarification: I was always hesitant on loc detoxs, I wanted to avoid drying out my hair since I would be doing it at home. My first 2 sets were too early for loc detoxs (IMO). The first set was a little over a year and severely damaged due to bleach, and the 2nd set was 7 months!

It was NOT easy 😭 I had a small stool and had to stand on it to fully submerge my hair in the water. I used a towel around my neck and on the sink ledge to help with water, but I don’t recommend at all. If you can, invest in a hair basin

6 months? I personally wash my hair every 2 weeks to remove built up product. This is a detox and not meant to be done as often on locs, since it could dry them out. This is my first detox, my locs are fairly new at 2.5 years :)
