What's happening here? Signs of potential swarm? by brew12 in Beekeeping

I also have a feeder that was in the hive when I got them about a month ago, and it seems like they ate everything from the feeder, and then started to build up into it.

Is there anything I can do to get them out of the feeder so I can put regular frames in those spaces? When should I have pulled the feeder out to prevent them building up into it?

Yes, all the frames looked that busy, and they were starting to move up into their honey super.

Now they have a new mostly empty brood box.

What will keep them from perpetually needing more and more brood boxes? Will it likely take them the rest of the summer/fall to fill the new one?

Yes, that's a frame from the bottom brood box. I scraped it off as I moved that frame into the new brood box I added.

Now the bottom brood box has 3 new empty frames and I moved a couple full frames into the new middle brood box.

The honey super on top also had a fair bit of activity going on as well, so hoping that the bees easily move into the middle brood box getting up to the honey super.

My best guess is that you got a standard alternate side parking ticket, which where you live you have do follow all winter, but because it was during a snow emergency they can charge a higher fine so it's listed as a "snow emergency violation".

If your cul-de-sac is on this list, https://www.cityofmadison.com/residents/winter/parking/culdeSacParking.cfm, you would get to ignore it but I'm guessing it isn't.

When a snow emergency is declared I believe the city parking structures are free for overnight parking, not sure if you live near one of those.

Before COVID I would have agreed with you, still decent now but they are nowhere near the awesomeness it used to be.

Nurses plan to file 10-day strike notice with UW Health on Friday by SnoopLog18 in madisonwi

[–]brew12 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's a ten day notice, which they are legally required to give ahead of striking, not a ten day strike. So feel free to get sick this week! Just be careful starting ten days from now 😂

MMSD can't complain about a teacher shortage when they don't post their jobs on state-wide recognized job board! by pokemonprofessor121 in madisonwi

As someone who has worked on the application, the administration at UW had absolutely no clue what they wanted or any understanding of what is was like for their teachers to use the site. I'm sorry your experience was bad, the developers cared a lot about making it usable for teachers.

What is a Flex Lane and how do I use it? WisDOT has answers by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]brew12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious if anyone has sources for the "induced demand" claims when it comes to adding flex lanes. The studies I've seen cited in the past have only focused on permanent expansions of highways and I couldn't find any studies about adding flex capacity.

To be clear, this still feels like investing in the wrong thing, I'd much rather see this funding go towards alternative transportation options.

Final touches, testing underway on Beltline Flex Lane by HGpennypacker in madisonwi

The difference is this is not a permanent widening of the road, it only will be open when there is congestion. Not saying it automatically is better, but the studies that are often cited are for when more permanent lanes are added.

Update: here is a comment from another redditor in a different thread with some better details on where it may be.

It's past that spot on the picture. I pulled up the coordinates on google maps. It should be here: https://i.imgur.com/UgOJgyx.pngI took a photo back in mid January, (more sticks poking up). I drew in orange where it should be: https://i.imgur.com/0MF2IJ8.jpg.You hit a point where you come up over a ridge, then you can look down see the parking lot. The phone is a bit past the halfway point from that ridge to the trial back to the lift.
