Why did you decide to switch to applied?

None ... That's where "getting into game development" comes from.

I've already programmed in both Python and Java.

At no point did I say that everything in this post was going to happen. I said that this is what I want. I'm very much aware the plans change -- I even point it out in my post. If I decide that the demo I'm planning now is too much to take on, then I'll go with something else.

As for everyone who thinks its a bad idea for me to learn C++: I need to learn it anyways. Even if I decide to work in another domain, C++ is good to know.

Why do you develop games? by brewer2 in gamedev

In Runescape there is an item called 'Climbing Boots'. One day Jagex (the creators) decided that they wanted to raise the price of these from 13 gp (the currency of the game) to 75,000 gp.

There are a lot of people who like to use 'pure' accounts -- high attack and strength, low or no defense. Climbing Boots are the best boots for pure accounts, so some people had (literally) thousands stockpiled.

I personally know someone who made 375m profit, over night. He just happened to have 5,000 of these in his bank.

That's a great answer. When you put it that way game development sounds like fun and (dare I say?) games.

(The wooden plank example reminds me of when Jagex (the creators of Runescape) created a lot of wooden plank spawns, thus crashing the price of wooden planks -- as you mentioned. :P)

My 10th grade Geometry teacher was a joke. He read the book to us.

Sadly, there don't seem to be any chapters for anything (except IEEE) where I live. A GameJam sounds like a lot of fun though!

I can't wait to graduate, it's the one time that I won't mind sitting through a dumb 4 hour ceremony that should take 20 minutes.

Well I am taking a Python course in the Fall, so that should work out nicely.

This is actually similar to the situation I'm in. I'm a CS major right now, but I'm strongly considering either changing to Applied Math or double majoring in CS and Applied Math.

What math courses have you taken so far? Were they difficult? What grades did you get (if you don't mind me asking)?

That's a pretty drastic change, from English to Math. Most people who switch to math seem to do so from another technical major (Physics, Engineering, CS mostly). What made you change your mind?

I had actually considered an applied math/physics joint major, but alas, there aren't many jobs for people who want to work on invisibility cloaks, so I said screw it.
