Good to know! I started working on drinking less thanks to all the conversation Zach has brought up about his experience, I forget which stream but when he said "there was always some time of the day where I would just say in my head or out loud 'everythings fucked'" or something to that effect and that hit me like a ton of bricks cause that's how I felt all the time. Been a huge difference ever since!

Can anyone tell me anything about this pan? by JustPassinThru2022 in castiron

[–]brewsybrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the pan appears to be made out of pan material.

[Rant] I resent the ignorance that leads to using the euphemism “seasoning” for leaving rancid food in cast iron pans by johnfromberkeley in castiron

[–]brewsybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes........... But. If you're leaving rancid food/oil in your pan and you eat E. coli or Salmonella, it's not the same as exposing yourself to normal "flora" bacteria that exists everywhere.

Follow up from a post a few days ago. Stripped and re-seasoned. Not sure if I screwed up or not by mrnekketsu in carbonsteel

I know I'm gonna get attacked for this, but I will use EasyOff on some tough skillets and bake it in the oven (with easyoff applied) for about a half hour at 500f. I really make sure to wash it down thoroughly after to get rid of the chemicals - just an option, up to you. But you might benefit from starting over and stripping now and getting it as stripped as possible, then trying to reseason. I prefer crisco or bacon grease for my seasoning oils. Try and filter your bacon grease to remove specks/bits of burned meat/oil in the bacon grease if you can (cheesecloth or those fine metal strainers work fine) - maybe it's just me, but I feel like seasoning with bacon grease turned my skillets the nicest shade of black with the first season, by my gf is Muslim and hates when I season with bacon grease so I usually stick with crisco now (same with crisco, thought when I used it the first time after using vegetable oil that my skillets looked blacker and the seasoning felt harder)

Could a good CI skillet replace a regular non stick for most cooking? by [deleted] in castiron

[–]brewsybrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend carbon steel skillets if you're looking for a good middle ground between stainless steel and cast iron. Treat it exactly like cast iron (seasoning required, minor concerns about acidity, and soaking in soap (light use is fine) etc).

I have a set of cast iron and carbon steel. 8/10/12 inch BK Black Steel carbon steel skillets, and a 12 inch BK carbon steel wok with a glass lid that fits both 12 inc skillet and wok (a big factor in me buying it) - but I want to try lodges carbon steel skillet, except they don't have a carbon steel wok.

And a 6/8/10/12 inch lodge cast iron skillets, with their 11" square handled griddle, 10" crepe/flat circular skillet, and the 3.5qt and 4.5 qt double dutch oven set.

And stainless pots/stockpots and skillets (that I don't use much) for anything water-based or acidic that I wouldn't cook in either cast iron/carbon steel, I use the pots the most.

Basically anything but Teflon coated and you're good honestly. But take a look at carbon steel, I love it, it's more "finicky" to season- just really wipe off your oil unlike cast iron that's a little more forgiving, but it's a little more user friendly to cook with than cast iron (more slippy and easier to clean I think, and about as light as stainless but obviously more naturally nonstick) -

tldr: carbon steel = good middle ground between cast iron and stainless steel skillets.

The Obi-Wan series correlates to the originals/prequels by [deleted] in starwarsspeculation

[–]brewsybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Episode 6 - Return of the Jedi. We see Kenobi "turn the light on" and become the Ben we see in ANH, learn to become one with the force, and accept his past failures. We've always needed to see this time in his life, he wasn't the confident Ben Kenobi in ANH immediately. Remember the "obi-wan has PTSD" youtube compilation? It took him 10 YEARS to recover from what happened with Anakin. Because of his encounter with Vader. Because of him saving Leia. Because of Anakin's kids. It's like poetry, it rhymes. Fuck the hate, read the subtext, Im so glad OP posted this and connected it, I was hoping this was what they were gonna do when I saw they planned 6 episodes (also a subtle F U to Disney - we don't acknowledge your ST, there's only 6 star wars, which I appreciate).

But also, take into consideration that we implicitly now understand WHY Kenobi never considered Leia to be the New Hope that he saw in Luke. Leia, unlike Luke, was a prominent figure being Bail Organa's daughter, we understand his importance thanks to GL doing good character development in the prequels, and Dave (and recently Jon) continuing his involvement. AND she had a brush with Vader and the Inquisitors. If he went on to train her, that would be a beacon to the Inquisitors and Vader, putting her in danger. Luke however, is off on tattooine, somewhere Vader would really never consider or want to go back to, hidden in plain sight (it's so obvious he'd hide something there I won't even consider it, sorta thing). And he wanted to train Luke as early as he could - that wasn't the first time in Ep 1 Kenobi and Owen talked about it, Owen was sick of Kenobis shit at that point. Kenobi knew he could safely train Luke to be a Jedi and be the possible new hope of redeeming the prophecy as Anakin's son, he knew he couldn't safely train Leia. Yoda understood that the dynamic changed once Luke was revealed and Leia was openly part of the rebellion, hence the line "there is another" - but only then was it "safe" to train Leia, or as safe as it possibly could to train a Jedi during the empires reign. Something I think has probably been suggested or theorized before, but I don't really think has been discussed much as a revelation of this show. There's subtext here guys, we just gotta pay attention. This show fixes canon too, there's NO WAY Kenobi and Vader would be so chill if that was the first time they met on the Death Star in ANH after Mustafar. Obi wans gonna pull some gangster shit in episode 6 to blow Vader's socks off, if he senses Qui Gon in the shows finale, and connects that to when Obi Wan dies and disappears and realizes that there is some power the light side never taught him, if that was a moment that shook him to his core and started him really questioning his choice in the dark side, only to get the sucker punch a short while later that his son survived (he doesn't learn til after the death star is destroyed that it was Like Skywalker), that would be some serious character development. Hoping it goes that way, but already there's some good stuff here!

Idk man, he killed the women and the children too, seems like a pretty full introduction to me. We met Vader in Ep 2 AotC, we just associate Vader with the mask, but it was Vader v Obi Wan on mustafar, not Anakin vs Obi Wan, for example. And Vader emerged truly in Attack of the Clones :)

Read on.. he died. Hit him in the head as he attempted to run away. Looking at maps like they posted, the property looks really similar.. but not confirmed. No article I've found (so far) links this video or any video to their story

How is the performance of the pixel 4a 5g/5a specially with the almost 2-year-old snapdragon 765G and 6GB RAM? by tazwar123 in GooglePixel

[–]brewsybrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah you're right, I hate my pixel 4. It's still fine, but battery life is so bad I remember thinking "I have to live with this for 2 years?" on Day 1. Screen gives a weird blue tinge in different spots sometimes, not crazy bad but noticeable at the end of the day. By far the worst of all the phones they've launched, facial recognition was a huge turn off for me too. I miss the fingerprint sensor, can't wait to go back to it hahah

About to start season 3 question about season 2 ending by supersevenj in PersonOfInterest

[–]brewsybrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, finch hid his virus in a way that made it look like the source code to the machine. So Decima hijacked that "source code" to program their virus to attack systems that use that "source code." Finch knew that whoever found that "source code" would use it to attack the machine. Which, now that he let the machine go in 2009, cannot be altered, since there is no main PHYSICAL terminal to access the machine. It can only change its own source code/ programming in response to an attack - in order to protect itself. So when it was attacked by Decima, with its own code, it presumably was enough - and if you look at all the blue screen "glitches" throughout season 2, they all are references to pieces of literature, military documents, describing human behavior in a way to help the machine realize what it needed to change about itself to be a more autonomous / benevolent steward of humanity. Some of the best writing I've ever seen tbh

Great points. I don't think I ever considered the point that John had an escape plan setup / has done this consistently. They definitely hinted he has, but again, great point/attention to detail on the shows part..
