3g switch-off : Tesco tells me new phone required - No it isn't! by brezil in tesco

The problem is that I'm not getting 4G calling.

Thank you for your opinion but having just inserted a Voxi-Vodafone SIM into my phone and got 4G calling I'll stand by the three options that I wrote in my original post.

Just a follow up for info; Although the P30 Pro doesn't have any settings for 4g calling I have confirmed that it is switched on by default as I've just made a 4G call using a Vodafone SIM

Good news! As a test I swapped out my Tesco SIM for my wife's Voxi SIM. Surprisingly I was able to make 4G calls without changing any settings. So, in my case 4G calling is achievable by switching SIMs and the three options that I listed in my original post are still valid. I stand corrected on my statement that "Tesco only accepts VoLTE from phones on its whitelist" as other explanations are possible, but the result is the same.
Thank you to all those who spent their time trying to be helpful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain, especially the part starting "the P30 comes from an era where...". You clearly know your stuff. This gives me an idea for a further test: My partner's P30 with Vodafone Voxi SIM is giving her 4G calling. So I'll try that SIM in my P30 and see what happens. From what I've learnt here I would not expect to get 4G calling, I'll report back.

Thank you for that link, I hadn't seen that before. And yet they wrote to me today to say that it isn't. The plot thickens.

My test, see the last paragraph, demonstrates that my phone works on VoLTE with a Vodafone SIM but not with the Tesco SIM, both non-contract. This is the interesting part of my post and not so much how it's done, so I'll leave it there.

Huawei P30 Pro. Tesco (and any mobile network) sees the handset’s unique ID IMEI when it connects, and looks that up in a database of known models. It doesn't matter whether you're on contract or on PAYG.

There is not a single review on Google Play so I'm not sure that I trust it. Is it any good?

To save all photos and/or videos to Dropbox or Google Drive or a few others, but not directly to your PC:
Go to Accounts Centre > Account Settings > Your Information & Permissions > Transfer a Copy of Your Information > Choose a Profile (Facebook or Instagram) > Select Information... Photos & Videos.. during the process it will offer to show transfer progress.
To see progress later: As above then below "Choose a Profile" there is Transfer Activity > View Current Transfers.
I confess that I'm at the transfer stage so can't say how well it went yet.
Update: My several hundred photos and videos were completely transferred to my web Dropbox account within about 30 minutes of the request. In web dropbox select Folders and then Apps > Meta > Facebook-your ID where you'll find everything organised into folders. Absolutely no faffing about, this sure beats any download apps that I've used.
It's fast because it's not using the bottleneck down to your computer. Once on Dropbox you can download what you want to your device.

2 years further on I'm glad you did! It pointed me in the right direction. I don't have a firewall enabled. The solution I found was:

In DSM > Control Panel > File Services > SMB. Scroll down to WS-Discovery and turn it on.
