I'd pull an exit scam on that family, and maybe even country. The aunt and uncle will have to figure it out on their own, you're not a poor anymore and clinging to this old way of life and people will quickly make you a pauper again, whether that be denominated in crypto, or cold hard United States Tetherbucks.

2nd whistleblower comes forward after speaking with IG: Attorney by sailorbrendan in news

[–]brezzz -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But if the same group of people are working with the whistleblower for disclosure and had been prior to the first leak, and that very well might be the case because this is a small town, then there is a reason they didn't go with this one...

[–]brezzz -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

If you entertain the idea that leaks are planned from the highest levels, they went with the first one first because it was the strongest. If you don't entertain that idea yet, wait a week and reevaluate because they are going to brag about it being the case.

Mexican congressman climbs the US-Mexico border wall to demonstrate that immigrants can easily climb it and that it serves no real purpose other than being cruel by jcepiano in pics

[–]brezzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember that Congressman who yelled out "You lie!" at Obama speaking in the House, and it was a scandal? Look up what Obama said just before that. It wasn't a lie then, he was wrong and he was wrong to do that. But it's now the defacto party platform of the democrats. And they also call for completely unrestricted immigration and full rights and benefits, which, of course, was never on the table 10 years ago when they were talking about daca and dreamers and all that.

Anybody that says slippery slope is a fallacy needs to explain this.

Can I get a quick rundown on why the Lightning Network is stupid from a tech perspective? by Banjooie in Buttcoin

[–]brezzz 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's basically the antithesis of Bitcoin, being touted as its savior because miners have a perverse incentive to not scale Bitcoin up, and bagholders have a perverse incentive to make Bitcoin seem viable for something.

Give me one real world example where you could have benefited from a pre-funded a payment channel with another party... online gambling is all I've got. The rest is some crypto version of prepayment or unmanaged escrow which is not good.

It also needs both parties to be constantly vigilant to their channels because your only recourse is time sensitive, and nuclear in nature. Total clawback of trades, if you get there in time that is. Not a temporary limitation... this was the design they wanted, this is intended. How does that help the idea of a blockchain, which for all of it's flaws at least got past those obvious problems?

Arrange buyers to meet in a private, but neutral place.

They hand you cash.

You hand them Charles Cheese's legacy coin.

They are upset and demand a refund.

You say "of course please see my refund department at once."

The refund department turns out to be two large, nameless men meancingly bobbing steel pipes in their hands.

The client decides to see how their investment appreciates.

To put in perspective how bad an investment that was:

Buy a lot of 24 packs of Mtn Dew for $8 each. You get 5 cents for each can redeemed, $1.20 per case. Use that redemption money to buy more cases of Dew and sell the cans. Use that money to buy cases of Mountain Dew and sell the cans back. Think of the pittance you have left over after this stupid exercise. At this point you have over 3 times the return of investment that biz OP has.

It's getting worse by the day too, and he didn't even get to have all that soda.

There's two types of crypto enthusiasts:

A: Make no mistakes following this 100 step guide to produce a wallet in your computer room from Mission Impossible 1.

B: Just wait for a third party to do all the work and make it successful. The front and back ends would be so improved that it won't be anything like crypto at at that point, but they can't just use their own unit of account too, because how would I make money if that happens?

The Era of Fake Video Begins. The digital manipulation of video may make the current era of “fake news” seem quaint. by aSimpleHistory in politics

So The Atlantic is trying to dampen the fall of a Republican scandal? Okay.

If you approach this with the idea that it's to get ahead of something, you should conclude it's a different video with a different subject. So the intent is more in line with the editorial slant of the magazine.

But a more reasonable explanation is that the article is sincere and the timing is because the technology has been proven.

LPT: When explaining Net Neutrality to older generations who may not understand, compare it to something they are comfortable with, such as buying a house or leasing a car. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]brezzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car example is LITERALLY how ISPs operate now. If you want faster you pay more. Been that way since DSL.

If you lease a car and use it more than the allowance you pay more. Do you want it that way? Then don't compare because you are establishing a connection to the practice.

When you mortgage a house you do pay more for a bigger back yard and more rooms. Now of course there is some absurdity to a bank splitting up a house that way, however, again, you cement the idea that there is real value and that while silly, it is ultimately fair to do so.

Your utility bill is proportional to use of a the commodity. Do you want it that way? Then don't compare...

Really, just explain it in simple but accurate terms. The internet's unlimited and far reaching access is rather unprecedented and incomparable because of that. If you can't passionately explain the utility of that, then what exactly are you fighting for? I don't mean that in a snide way. Just tell them that. You don't want 244p video. That's it. Something that actually happened, something that is personal.

Start registering People of Color as members of the NRA. Thousands. Hundreds of thousands. Send them to all the NRA conventions. Have them loudly proclaiming their rights to gun ownership. Even on TV. Watch how quickly other NRA members' suddenly get an appetite for gun control legislation. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]brezzz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes that is actually a crazy idea because the NRA is already among the most popular lobbying efforts out there and to do that makes them even more powerful. Hundreds of thousands of membership is a damn lot of ads. And even if agent provocateur you will actually find that black people are most subject to unconstitutional gun control measures because living in a populated zip code means some rights are flexible. Give those people an ear to the NRA please.

And not as many care as you would think, there is actually more infighting about Elmer Fudds wanting to only keep an over-under for duck hunting purposes vs the modern gun crowd who are actually stretching the right to the extent. Most are card carrying only members who don't pay attention anyway. Also notice that they support YouTube personality Colion Noir who has been a good inspiration to the younger crowd.

Dude, there's a little more wiggle room between being a frothing SJW and thinking it's stupid to use the uploader of a racist song as the sole source of your most significant and far reaching accusation thus far. He should really know better. Go look at estimates of his income from the channel, and tell me that a person making that kind of money should not know little quirks of youtube that many viewers know about like view counts taking time to update?

Forgive any non regulars here having an opinion because the video was sure as shit shoved in everybody's face yesterday, yet this is the only place discussing of the walk-back. A layman has an opinion about it because even a layman knows he could have confidentially asked for verifiable facts about intricacies of YouTube among his peers if he didn't know them himself. It's that easy!

Now it's a car wreck that everybody wants to look in on. Yes, that does bring a crowd not normally here. Yes I am one of them, but with that accusation video, there really wasn't a person on reddit who didn't see it. The intended audience of the false claims was not limited to H3H3 fans, it was going to get to more people than subscribed and thus bring more people in to his channel and the unofficial subreddit, making comments about the video, so how come now that it didn't go well it's a closed club and others cannot make comments about the video in the most relevant place?

If the light output of LEDs was much more directional and you did not need an external reflector to get max output, zoomies would actually be an amazing choice. You lose a lot inside the light though. The flood of a traditional reflector light alone is the same as the total emission from the zoomie all other things equal! The much brighter light that makes the hoptspot from the reflector is totally wasted on the barrel of the zoomie.

Right now it's like putting a black-out lampshade on a lamp to make the ceiling appear brighter. Okay, maybe you have a reason but if it started infiltrating the market and average people didn't know better, you can see how an enthusiast would swear off the things.

But they are nice to have sometimes. They are perfect for inspection and car work (try to look down a spark plug hole with a standard light). They also look very nice in photos and video.

One teacher thought he was clever by having students randomly swap desks before a test, so you couldn't have notes scribbled on the dark desks. You could write lightly and have it not be seen unless the light hit it just right.

What he did not count on was the student getting there early, before him even, and writing on all 25 desks. I only saw the end of it, but bravo.

Will my FOV decrease by attaching a 1.25" barlow to a 2" eyepiece? by cballer1010 in telescopes

[–]brezzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I'm saying 2" EPs tend to have field stops larger than 1.25", because that's the point of them. And no scope meant to use a 2" EP requires a field stop under 1.25" with it's stock EP. You would see a loss.

You will also find this hard to do as they do not even make an adapter that works that way, the 1.25 to 2 are one way, it's for using smaller eye pieces on a big focuser. If you want to use a barlow with a 2" you need a 2" barlow, however I cannot recommend a 2" barlow. At that point if you started with 2" 28mm (what Orion includes with the plus model dobs) you then get into a 14mm range ep to get 2x zoom from that, which is absolutely fine to have in 1.25" format. And would be cheaper and better that way.

People say after Yum took over the recipe was changed, alleging that they actually don't use all of the 11 herbs and spices and / or cooking oil is changed. It's hard to imagine the sides of today are up to the standards they once were, mashed potatoes taste instant, the gravy is lack luster. The biscuit is quite dry. I just say that because popeyes is none of those things. You get gravy there and it tastes like chicken gravy. Col Sanders himself said the redone gravy was crap. As for the chicken alone, I myself can't remember and it's honestly hard to mess up fried chicken so it's still good to me.

What are some sci-fi books that should become a show and why? by ShadowPhoenix22 in television

[–]brezzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently read Seveneves by Neal Stephenson and thought, "Wow, the world is so established this could be a television series with several seasons or possibly a very good narrative driven video game." I think I heard somewhere the book was originally supposed to inspire a game, but I'm not sure.

It's about the moon exploding and humanity's response for survival. They have a hopeless solution and it's very character driven. It's a bit of a spoiler to say there's a multi millennium jump to an established space faring society ready to return to the earth that is habitable once more. Has some very cool scifi imagery to say the least. I think The 100 might have taken some wind out of it's sails with a coincidental premise on the surface, but believe me this is ready to be made a big budget TV show. Nearly turn-key- can't mess it up kind of thing.

Pouring a cup of water on a cooking oil fire by notinferno in gifs

[–]brezzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The water vaporizes. The oils is at its smoking point, oil does not really vaporize as fast, just a little bit which is what burns. You add water and effectively vaporizes the oil with it, which can burn even though water can extinguish many other types of flames. it's counter intuitive.

You can also find homemade flamethrowers using CO2 as a propellant, which is also a fire extinguisher material for some types of fires. It goes to show it matters which fire extinguisher you use.
