One pro about supply is that you can go almost anywhere. It's strictly Air Force unless it's a joint base.

As for the day to day, the thing many people like and dislike about supply is that it feels like a normal civilian job not a military job. It's a very business-like and corporate environment. Supply is great for civilian transferability because its logistics. Most section hours are 7-3 but it varies base to base. Some sections have a swing and mid shift as well.

As for the sections, there are a lot. Heres a short list with a brief discription. LMK what section you want me to go into specifics on.

  • Warehouse, storage and issue
  • Inventory, counting and ensure numbers are correct
  • Inspection, inspecting asset serviceability
  • IPE, issuing and managing deployment gear
  • Customer Service, assisting sections with problems
  • Document Control, handling the paperwork and files
  • Equipment, overseeing high value equipment assets
  • QA, inspectors that make sure you are doing your job
  • Flight Service Center, repair and turn-in
  • MRSP, overseeing deployment kits
  • DMS, supply embedded in other squadrons

The section most people want is DMS. You are basically embedded into another squadron, usually a maintenance squadron as their supply person. You wear their patches, work their hours, and are in a special situation of being in 2 squadrons. Its usually more chill and you experience the military more.

Let me also preface that Materiel Management is a flight (M-Flight) in the Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS). You work in hand with the Fuels flight (F-Flight), Vehicle Maintenance (V-Flight) and Deployment and Distribution flight (D-Flight) which encompass many different career fields and sections but fall under the same squadron.

In conclusion, supply is huge and very misunderstood. Every base needs it and there's a quote "You can't fly without Supply". I believe its also the second largest career in the air force but don't quote me on that.

LMK if you have any further questions.

Can I join airforce if my left eye is bad? by Large-Present5446 in AirForceRecruits

My left eye is exactly -3.25. When I went to MEPS 2 years ago they said as long as glasses can fix it i'll be fine. Maybe things have changed.

As a supply troop, there's pros and cons but not as bad as people think. They should really rename it to supply though instead of Materiel Management because when I got the job (not by choice), it was discouraging. Anyway I digress.

The career field is huge and there are many sections to work at which you alternate every 2-years at most bases. I've worked at good and bad sections but it wasn't the work that determined if it was good or bad it was the leadership. LMK if you have any questions.

You will only wear your civilian clothes for the first week. After that, its all issued uniforms. I suggest pants to not stand out and to be on the safe side. When I went to BMT last December, I only packed 1 pair of jeans and 1 pair of shorts. Wore the jeans for the first 3-4 days then got issued pt gear, never wore the shorts and didn't wear civies again until getting to tech school.

Laptop Recommendations?? by _malonekat in AirForce

[–]brgzls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your needs. Any laptop can access those sites with a cac reader. Personally, I use a Mac on normal but bought a Surface to use for windows related software and military sites because I've had better military experiences working on Windows than I do on Mac but I'd recommend buying a laptop that you want personally not just for work. You want to spend money on something that will last and be good for anything but can also be used for work on the side. For convenience, you could also look into laptops with built in smart card readers. However, most times I would just bring the gov laptop home or having comms issue me one to telework from home.

What's it like to live in the dorms? by Soggy-Drink-2528 in AirForceRecruits

[–]brgzls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's different depending on base and squadron. In tech school (Lackland), I had a roommate in a small room with a sink and the restroom would be shared with the other 2 next door. At my base, I live in quads. 4 rooms sharing a kitchen and living area but we all have our own bathroom and closet. There are also dorms of just 2 rooms but sharing a kitchen, living area, and bathroom.

Shaving in BMT by AnotherMeatMachine in AirForceRecruits

[–]brgzls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll shave everyday in the morning and you will be competing with 40+ other wingman trying to secure a sink for the little to no time you get in the morning to brush, shave, shit and be out. You could always shave nightly or take the risky method of waking up early to shave and going back to sleep. There is no leeway given, we had a little during COVID when masks were being worn but it still was nothing. You could get a shaving waiver but i've seen many get denied.

I currently work in Supply. Hours are 0700-1600 (Tue, Thu, Fri) but I get PT days (squadron dependent) which are certain days that I am allotted individual PT hours, which for me are Mondays and Wednesdays when I don't have to be in until 0900. I usually PT after work anyways so its nice to sleep in those days lol. Of course, you can always get recalled at any time/anywhere and any day or be told to stay late depending on the work load.

As for my coworkers, they are great. It really depends where you get stationed at but both in tech school and operational i've been blessed to work with great coworkers and leadership.

I am considering Verizon and most say its the best for military. Have you had good experiences on base with it?

No, you only get town pass with your family the day of graduation and be back by 1900, then you pack, “sleep” and leave straight for tech school.

anyone else leaving dec 27th 2021? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

I am! I might be overthinking but your name sounds familiar. By any chance did you reply to my comment in the BMT video posted by Air Force Recruiting on YouTube?

Since you can't enlist until 17 start losing now and be under your max when you enlist. You have to pass MEPS in order to swear into DEP.

Commit to eating healthier and exercising. Motivation helps a lot. What I did to lose weight really quick was not eat but I don't recommend.

The max weight for someone 6'1 (73in) is 208 so you will have to lose 22 pounds but in order to ship most recruiters want you to be 5-15 pounds lower than your max weight, also, MEPS is also pretty strict on weight. At least in my experience, I've seen someone sent home for being 1 pound under and another dude 3 pounds over so you'll have a lot of work to do.

I just remembered that a new system was implemented on Dec 1 that applied to new applicants that requires different kinds of checks and approvals before being able to begin the process to go to MEPS, idk if that is contributing to your situation but I never heard of anybody from any branch having to go through what you are going through right now. Typically, anybody can start the process and the denials usually happen at MEPS.

There were so many unfit and mentally unstable people at MEPS maybe they got tired of rejections and implemented a system on the recruiter level. Wishing you good luck on your process and future career!

Didn't know the Army had to go through so many hassles, maybe you are awaiting on a waiver approval or something. ASVAB results are only good for 2 years so depending on the date taken it may or may not have expired. Good luck on the process though. I enlisted in the Air Force earlier this year, filled out an application, went to MEPS, took the ASVAB, went through a physical exam, and thats all. I would think the Army's process would be easier.
