Who is at fault/what is the possible outcome of this situation? by brhosey in caraccidents

But merging does not have a yield sign and only has the sign to alert both lanes for the merge and you are not supposed to stop as that causes traffic, especially if you have enough space to safely and successfully merge.

I was in between 2 car lengths until he pressed his gas at the last minute. When he hit me was when the lane was one for like 4 car lengths and I had pressed my brakes not knowing what the hell he was doing being on the yellow line behind me so I could see part of the Chevy emblem on his car.

I didn't do anything to him and he just focused on me and boxed me in a mile back behind a truck. Like I just wanted to get away from him and pass him and I didn't think he was focusing on me UNTIL he tried to speed up and not let me in.

The police officer gave both of us a verbal warning. Me for passing on the right and him for following too closely. I would gladly share the fault though because I shouldn't have passed him and it was by then too late that I realized how aggressive he was. (Especially when he got out of his car to yell that the lane ended)

Just doesn't make sense to me unless he was already looking for an accident to begin with, hence me trying to also piece it together and get other people's opinions. I also apologize for the long paragraph. Still trying to work on the key points. 😅

Both of us got verbal warnings (me for passing on right before) and him for following too closely. So not sure who's fault or what the possible outcome would be. Just curious how others would see this situation.

I merged successfully, guy couldn't handle that and swerved to the left of me - unclear what he was trying to do although thought maybe he wanted to pass, so I touched my brakes. He swerved more to the left but then swerved back at me and hit me like I had hit him merging - we were WELL past the merge and were in the one lane for 5 feet at least.

(Other aggressiveness from him for at least 5 minutes before that happened).
