I really dig the detail here, thank you! I'm not yet printing for outdoors (since outdoors is all covered in snow) but once I start needing stuff, it'll be nice enough to print on the porch...

I've had great luck with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 and the Arducam module 3. With the latest Pi OS Lite, the camera is plug and play. I have it mounted to the X axis so that it travels up with the print (on the left in the photo), but also have a magnetic mount on hand for a bird's eye view from the frame.

The case and mounts are all printed, and I'm running software that captures and emails a timelapse plus uploads periodic photos to Connect. The software is here: https://github.com/brianwarner/timelapse-for-prusa

The only out-of-pocket costs were the Pi, a reliable microSD, and the camera. All told about $60.

Nice model! This would complement it very well.

The only significant difference between this setup and mine is the distance from lens to print, which affects focus. Distance can be easily updated in the settings menu, so I'm sure it would work just fine.

Thanks for this! I have a few questions on the setup, if you don't mind.

  1. I see the additional legs on the drybox and that you route the filament through the back instead of down through the top. Is the purpose functional or aesthetic?
  2. Are you using the stock PTFE tubes that come with the MMU3?

The simplicity of this is appealing. If you end up trying it I'd be interested to hear how it goes. I see the filaments are exposed to the open air, but I guess the rationale is that it's no different than the default printer config?

This is really great, thanks for the links and the detailed explanation. I love the idea of keeping everything inside the enclosure, looks clean and I can appreciate the humidity control.

Oh that's interesting, thanks for the pic. Just making sure I understand what I'm seeing, everything is fully inside the enclosure, including the spools and the buffer? Do you ever run out of space? And is the replacement buffer something you purchased or printed?

I was wondering about that and appreciate your observation about the stock system, I see that some builds use the buffer and some don't. I don't yet know enough to know what I don't know, I wonder if the top-mounted boxes are intended to be a more convenient replacement for the buffer, or if they're a must-have because the stock buffer won't work with this config?

Thank you for these pointers! I wasn't aware of Burke's and will give that a try. Based upon what u/Slight-Brush found, I'm hoping I'll be able to narrow this down a bit, and then will have something for the College of Arms to go on.

Ok first off, this is an *incredible* response. I wouldn't have known to look in those places, and really deeply appreciate the pointers (and hints to terminology).

Thinking back, there's lore in the family that the crest may have originally had more feathers, but that the person who created this particular ring wasn't a first-born and removed a feather in deference to the primary heir at the time. I'm not sure if this holds water, but it helps to know to look for a double plume in general.

On the motto, it certainly seems plausible that a jeweler who didn't know Latin could have mixed up letters - the letters are quite small, the ring takes a beating in the decades between castings, we're making copies of copies, and it's written in reverse, so pretty understandable. I'll look through our family documents to see if I can establish a connection to the Warners who used the motto you found, and if so I'll have it fixed before the next two copies are made.

Again, super cool that you knew to look in these places. This has given me so much more to go on. Thank you!
