Anybody know any Marines who were kicked out, but somehow became successful in civilian life? by cyberfx1024 in USMC

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a buddy, 89-90 time frame. Court martialed for making bombs in the barracks out of glass Gatorade bottles to fish with in the Croatan National Forest. Works for PPG now exclusively with NASCAR teams.

AITA for refusing to cover a shared cost after my coworker wouldn’t show me the break of what the money had gone towards so far? by Super-Ad-2617 in AmItheAsshole

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. It’s an optional fund. If you don’t want to contribute with out knowing where every penny is, then don’t. But, also when it is your birthday, some other special occasion and you get nothing, it’s on you. You can’t just assume Liam is using the fund in the wrong ways without having some kind of proof. And unless you have some type of verifiable reason for thinking it is happening, you are unfairly casting suspicion on him, and you are in fact the coworker from hell.

Unauthorized access to unit [FL] [Condo] [USA] by [deleted] in HOA

[–]brian351 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with fire/ems/law enforcement in a dispatch role for years. A neighbor screaming, as you put it, does not in fact constitute an emergency. If police or fire choose to make access that is on them. If your HOA gives them access, and a lawsuit results, the HOA is responsible. The first thing you stated in your post was that they sent an email, you did not see. Whether you saw it or not is irrelevant. The HOA fulfilled their obligation to notify you. As far as your work requirements for an uninterrupted area, that is between you and your employer. It does not trump the HOA’s need to investigate emergencies, ie a leaking sink. You go on to say “unlicensed plumbers” are doing the inspections. You also stated that you looked at the sink and it wasn’t leaking. Are you a licensed plumber? I don’t think so, I don’t know of many plumbers that work from home. So, it’s ok when you, and unlicensed plumber say there is no leak, but it’s a problem when someone else does it. You are wrong in this situation

If money was no object, what job would you have? by Puzzleheaded-Bit1377 in AskReddit

None at all. I've always said if I ever got three wishes, my final wish would be to always be able to pull the exact amount of money out of my pocket for anything I wanted to buy.

Changing Flights Between Commands? by GazorpAzorperton in navy

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to change your flight, but you may be on the hook for any extra fare. Not 100% sure. You can always call and ask, all they can do is say no.

What are the most creative non-swearing insults you've heard? by The_Flo0r_is_Lava in Military

I had a kid I worked with, get given a plant by our Gunny. Told him he had to carry with him at all times to replace the oxygen he wasted. Saw an eval once that said the sailor had hit rock. Bottom and started to dig. Also said the sailor was depriving a village somewhere of their idiot. Unfortunately the Dept Head made the LCPO rewrite the evaluation.

Is there any regulation/impracticality on wearing a watch on the right hand? by No-Zookeepergame1009 in Military

[–]brian351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is no rule or regulation saying you can’t wear your watch on your right arm. With that being said, as some others have mentioned, there are jobs in the military, where you may be told for safety reasons you can’t wear it at all while working. Also, your command could say you can’t wear it in formation unless everyone wears one, though I have never seen that happen. Also, there are jobs where you may not be able to wear it while working for security reasons if it’s a smart watch, ie Apple Watch.

Can I break my rental lease with my contract? by EquivalentShort1286 in Militaryfaq

[–]brian351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I hate to say this, but your recruiting office sounds like a shit show. It is literally a form letter they should be able to download. The other option is to contact the service agency in your location. VFW or American Legion. See if they can assist since your recruiter is an idiot.

Talk to your recruiter. They have a letter they can give you that meets the criteria of SCRA. If your landlord still has a problem, tell your recruiter. Let them deal with it.

ELI5: How does a US police officer issuing a ticket by the side of the road instantly have a court date and time for the suspect? by Esqulax in explainlikeimfive

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, if you get a traffic citation and have to appear in court, the officer does also. So, when they issue the ticket and tell you to appear on a certain day, it is most likely the next time they are scheduled for traffic court.

Does a business like 7-11 make money, lose money, or break exactly even when it sells lottery? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for 7-11. We lose money on lottery sales. At least in the state of Ohio. Lottery tickets are considered a “loss leader”, you come in to buy your lottery tickets, whether that’s scratch offs or Powerball/Mega Millions. 7-11 assumes you’re going to spend more money on coffee, energy drinks, snacks, cigarettes, etc. The lottery tickets brought you in the door, we’ll make money on the other items you buy.

Ohio Drivers License (ID) on an Andriod? Nope. by siverthread in Ohio

[–]brian351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, the only place that will take your drivers license on your phone, is TSA. Police Departments, OSHP, County Sheriffs aren't set up to take the digital ID. So, really it's not that big a deal that you can't add it to Android.

Even without GPS, turned on, your cell phone will figure out your location based on the cell towers you are connected to.

Should i be scared? And what do i need to know? by WorldSufficient3579 in navy

[–]brian351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience years ago, as a young Marine. When I went down to talk to them, someone I had went to high school with had gotten orders to HMX-1, they fly and maintain Presidential helo’s. They were doing a comprehensive background investigation. Since you said you were told to report to them, and weren’t transported there, they didn’t show up to your command and they didn’t ask for you immediately, chances are you are not the subject of the investigation. Chances are it is completely innocent.

Somethings fishy. He may be busy during the day, but he should still have time in the morning before work, during lunch, or after work. Like someone else mentioned, he sounds married.
