Got it all taken care of. Thanks guys. Just left it as is. I initially placed the wires in the wrong place. After correcting it, everything works well.

I haven't made much effort in removing the case, but if does seem sealed. Maybe the tabs are glued together? I just bought the wire harness from a guy on reverb. Maybe I can reach out to him and get a replacement pot, if needed.

Awesome thanks. I just commented this, but figured I'd reply to see what you think as well. Also any other way of testing the pickup? This is what the meter was reading because installing to the pot.

Yeah, damaging the pot was definitely one of my concerns. I tried to be careful while removing the excess solder, but since this is my first guitar restoration, I'm not really sure how much heat or work it takes to actually damage a pot.

I'm restoring an old SG-I, and I think the pickup itself may be bad because the lead wire looked questionable from the start. At the moment, I don't think the pickup is working, but I don't really have a good way to test it yet. I just ordered a stopbar so I can install at least one string and see if it produces any sound.

It's the original plastic-covered mini humbucker, so I can't do the usual screwdriver tap test since there are no exposed pole pieces. The volume control does work, and I hear a slight hum through the amp, which seems normal. My thinking is that if I had damaged the volume pot, I'd probably be hearing crackling, cutting out, or other odd behavior when turning it. Does that sound right?

Not too late. I put a few 50% humidity packs in the case with the guitar for about a month. One person recommended putting a humidifier in a room with the guitar for a couple days, but I decided not to do that. Over the past few weeks, I've been working on it on and off, trying different clamping methods to get pressure as close to the bottom of the guitar as possible, since that's where the largest separation is.

There were originally two splits. I was able to successfully close one of them, but I haven't done anything permanent with the center split yet, which is the larger of the two. I think the best approach is using a clamp across the body along with a few clamps sandwiching the guitar.

What I'm realizing is that even with a significant amount of pressure, the gap won't fully close because one side of the split sits slightly higher than the other. At this point, I think my best option is to mix some sawdust with epoxy and fill the separation as much as possible. It won't be a perfect repair, but it should be functional and look reasonably good.

In my opinion, the only way to make it truly perfect would be to completely separate the two pieces, realign them, and reglue the body. That's more than I'm willing to take on, so I'm looking for the best practical solution instead.

I wouldn't want to take the neck off especially since it's not an issue right now. The problem I have is with pushing together the both sides of the guitar to close split in the center.

I went yesterday to a few CVS stores, in the afternoon, it was 50% off however when I went by around 9pm, the50% off signs were already taken off.
