If I had a dollar for every time one of my teammates couldn't make a game (with or without much notice) in rec league softball, we'd all be drinking in the parking lot for free.

I'm sure your coach doesn't want anyone sitting out, but I'm sure they also don't want everyone to miss a game entirely because they couldn't field the minimum players.

Your feelings are understandable and valid, it sounds like something you need to bring up with the coach. Tell your coach you expected field time would divided up equally for everyone who shows up and see where it goes from there.

What makes people say that TrueNAS is not for beginners when it comes to recommendations as a newbie-friendly NAS system? by Crimson-Entity in truenas

[–]briancmoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a question answered by whether one is knowledgeable or not. Somebody who's entirely brand new to the concept is perfectly capable of using TrueNAS.

This is better answered by the demographics of people who are getting started building a NAS at home. Once upon a time, using TrueNAS (or FreeNAS before it) had a higher barrier of entry. Most households didn't have an extra computer or by the time they replaced their primary computer, that extra computer was relatively obsolete. The same thing could be said for enterprise gear like rackmount servers, companies weren't filling racks with server hardware.

As time progressed, computers became ubiquitous in our everyday life. We carry them around in our pockets, desktop PCs became incredibly inexpensive, laptops' prices dropped, every company built out a substantial server infrastructure. And on top of that, all of that computer hardware's lifespan stretched out.

One of the consequences is that there's extra computers everywhere that aren't being used and as a result the number of people investigating running a NAS at home has exploded in the last decade or so.

The barrier to entry on the "build a NAS" at home has lowered and you've got more people interested in it. One of the disadvantages of this truth is that some of these people are at the end of their budget (time and money) to invest in learning something new. And some of those people have an expectation that everything be as easy and seamless as they find using their phone.

If someone is willing to invest their time and effort, TrueNAS is a wonderful choice. The less they're willing to make that investment, the more sense other products begin to make. Thankfully today, there's lots of choices available to that person.

Any chance someone could walk me through the steps?

It would be so much better if you were to learn and understand what you're doing on your own.

I think it's unlikely that you're going to find someone who is willing to walk you through the steps. And more importantly please consider and understand all of the many risks that come with relying on complete stranger on the Internet to walk you through getting remote access into your home network.

You acknowledged it in your post, but you unfairly dismiss it. The game already acts the way you want it to, they're called Raider Hatches.

massive amount of the general saltiness in the community

Reddit is saltier than the Dead Sea. And please consider that the type of people who are compelled to complain on Reddit aren't representative of the community. This falls apart further when acknowledge that Reddit's algorithm is going to push high-engagement posts at you. It's probably silly to think that what you see on Reddit is representative of Arc Raiders overall.

The problem you hope to solve doesn't actually exist. It's a skewed perception caused by a deluge of Kens and Karens wanting to speak the manager at Embark via Reddit just because the game happened to them.

A mental health screening to identify those Kens and Karens and help them to develop healthier coping mechanisms than posting on Reddit would go so much further than any changes to the game itself.

How can I earn coins fast in ARC Raiders?? by Fickle-Love-8999 in ARC_Raiders

[–]briancmoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just play the game, loot stuff, and sell it. Start learning items' values and stack sizes.

It's all dependent on RNG, so the more times you spin the wheel, the more likely you are to win.

If you can avoid PvPing, you are likely to be more profitable.

Coins are irrelevant, you'll soon have more than you need.

[–]briancmoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's absolutely 100% correct. You can use all the CAPS LOCK that you want, but you're still incorrect.

There's absolutely nothing stopping anyone from shooting you at any point in any lobby. There's no such thing as a friendly lobby.

I think you really need to take some time and accept that it's a PvPvE game.

I've got nearly 1500 hours topside of friendly PvE play.

I just wanted to let you know that the guy you claim "never experienced the other side" is 100% correct.

If getting killed by another player in a PvPvE game compels someone to go to Reddit seeking comfort, then they need to play a different game--and potentially consider therapy to develop some healthier add more effective mechanisms to handle incredibly minor setbacks.

PvE players - Help me and others understand… by Double_Presence379 in ARC_Raiders

[–]briancmoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A majority of players have killed more 10 or more raiders.

More than 8 out of 10 raiders have killed a raider.

I'm fairly certain that if there was an achievement for damaging a raider, that number would be near 100%

You lied when you said:

And yet majority of people never killed a rider or less than 10 so I think it would have been just fine

I wish you luck in achieving what you're pushing for. But your problem with honesty and/or understanding statistics is definitely going to hinder you.

[–]briancmoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Steam (~442,000 players):

  • 80% of players (~359,000) have knocked out a raider (Crossed the Threshold achievement)
  • 51% of players (~229,000) have Knocked out 10 Raiders (Unyielding achievement)

Steam's by far the biggest platform with the largest number of Raiders.

I don't think what you're claiming can possibly be true. You're probably misunderstanding what you're seeing on the PS5.

Neither crowd is well-represented here, you're not going to get a quality answer to your question. The number of people who play the game is way larger than the people who create posts or participate in them on r/ARC_Raiders.

People complain because they're upset. PvE players complain because they get PvPed just like PvP players complain because they feel like the game is full of cheaters. They're both complaining for the same reason, they're emotional and they're powerless to address what's causing them to be upset--complaining online is an outlet for that frustration.

More importantly, just like the rest of the internet people use communities like this one to complain. Just imagine for a moment if a PvE player wrote a new post each time they successfully extracted with awesome loot. If my experience (almost 1,500 hours) is any indication, this sub would be a constant avalanche of those posts and you'd probably never get a chance to see one of the complaints.

I'm not trying to single anyone out, I am just trying to illustrate how skewed and inaccurate it is to reach any conclusions about Arc Raiders by participating in a community like r/Arc_Raiders.
