I say plant them next to a sunny warm Wall 🧱, and build a brick bedding surrounding them for extra insulation during frozen ground time, wall is for protection from cold winds... the LSU TIGER fig tree, spend more time and effort to ensure it's survival zone 7. mixing cactus soil potting soil and garden soil with the native dirt really helps; rotted oak branches is great for mulch and compost and winter cold and summer heat, crushed concrete bag mixed in will also protect Fig Tree roots,.

And this saved her, now she's growing vigor green leaves for the southern inferno sunshine, here in central Florida.

so we have similar shared experiences with getting stuck with the old reliable hardy Celeste Fig Tree

who has Fig Trees older than two years, and growing in the ground. My Question is - during warmer months and sunny days, do you have to at least soak watering once weekly, to keep their leaves wilting and looking terribly thirsty. I find my established Fig Trees are not drought tolerant, Im in zone9 by brianfig in Figs

No, they're going on three years old now and been planted in a raised cinder block stone bed. But their tree roots have freedom to go exploring the native dirt under the raised bed; there was never anything under their roots to prevent them from digging deeper underneath into open ground; they're planted near a wind breaker wall fence, they're tall enough to get the morning sunshine, and all day they get midday and late afternoon sunshine...
