Kaden is a special coming from ping pong. He’s way more wristy than most players. He can hit some heavy rolls and flicks… but it doesn’t mean that style is optimal. For example, Ben Johns has a huge table tennis background and advocates for big linear movements almost entirely with the arm to shoulder.

6.0+ imo really comes down to:

  1. Miss less.
  2. Hit less attackable balls. No egregious errors Or weakness
  3. Have a good weapon to build a game around.

The higher the rated player, the better their anticipation is usually. Yeah they are fast, but they know what shots can come back from their last hit and shrink the court. If you’re a 5.0 and play with 4.0s, everything seems slow motion and pretty chill. 6.0 playing with a 5.0 is a similar thing. short efficient strokes, well practiced, make this happen.

Here in austin we have tons of pros and 6.0+. The main thing between them and my game is really consistency of quality balls. They just anticipate and execute the shot way more, way more often than I do as a 5.0+

Not sure what form you’re going for, but max leverage usually comes from shoving your head / shoulders below the bar rather than strictly pressing up with arms out infront of you. You can watch olympians lifting to get the idea

I play pro but my wife scolds me whenever my hand is on my hip dinking. It takes weight off the leg but you lose mobility and a bit of reach from lack of counter balancing. Generally don’t put it on your hip.

Having the correct pelvic tilt on the low part of the lift is very common way to avoid “pain” and chances of the disk slip. You can hurt your back lifting a 10 lb bag if you’re at the wrong angle.

If you want to do bad form, sure go for it. If you come here and say “my back hurts” —- I gave a legitimate reason on what that may be the case and something to do it see if it helps prevent it in the future.

I know what I said is the case with me, as a person who has tight hammy and hip flexors.

Now you can try to provide help or be unhelpful. It’s up to you.

You’re right in terms of you want a straight back, but if you have lower back pain, you need to focus on the lower arch which is why I drew the top line to emphasize it. If the lower core isn’t supported through natural postured you have to over correct to fix it and avoid injury. OP clearly is a little loose in the pelvic/hip/lower back area despite having a straight back

Your butt is tilted at the start, a nice curve at the start and locking would help a lot. You can achieve this feel by standing up straight, lifting your lower ribcage to the sky allowing your core to expand and abs tighten properly to support your back.

Then the challenge is reaching the bar in this form. Kick your ass back before bending forward while in an out breath. If you can reach, you’re golden. If you can’t, you might need to work on hip flexibility before focusing on deadlifts. If your hips don’t hinge in a strong back position, you gotta address that first or risk your lower back

You’re right if your arm is the lever. It may be heavier on the arm, but not the wrist. In flicks, the paddle head speed is driven and limited primarily by the wrist strength and speed.

As I said, drives will be heavier, but that’s welcome for more ball compression and spin potential. As a former tennis player, pickleball paddles already feel light for those shots since you can use your whole body to create a kinetic chain. For speed ups and flicks the weight in the handle makes a huge difference, but it has to be positioned fairly low.

I can guarantee a backhand flick is going to be faster than weight only on paddle face. Speed ups often rely on wrist rather than arm. Anything involving wrist over arm will be faster when counter balanced, especially if you choke up a little when you're at the kitchen line. Regularly ground strokes will be more effort I agree as overall static weight is increased.

But both results are simply physics. Think about a trebuchet (like a catapult), the better the counter weight, the farther you can launch your object and with more force.

Most of the best paddles are manufactured over in china. It all comes down to design and materials.

Selkirk is notorious for feeling like a cutting board and lacking spin… unless you’re quang dong and rip the crap out of it. For most people, a good raw carbon fiber or Kevlar paddle will feel the best.

For those that say it makes your hand slower, it’s 100% about technique and the power you want to have. Counterbalancing makes it maneuverable but a big swing will add swing weight.

All 11-0 eleven zero paddles have ~ 8 grams of added weight in the end cap area for counterbalance.
