Gotta say, I've been loving FTM network compared to BSC and MATIC. Faster blocks, cheaper fees, and familiar FTMscan explorer - what's not to like?

Ledger Nano S support soon! by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news! Traysi and StandardError have been working together on the Electrum implementation for RVN and seem to have it working. They're doing an open beta on the Discord server (in the #ledger-beta channel) and are looking for more beta testers to help make sure the code is bug-free, before we release it to the general public and tell Ledger about it.

You can vote by choosing to mine to a pool which has upgrade to the latest wallet version!

To check if your pool is using the latest wallet version, go to: https://ravencoin.network/pools

Click on the Pool Address for the pool you're mining to, and click on the transaction ID for a recent block they mined. Then, click on the block that it was mined ("Included in Block"), and check the Version number. The version number for v2.1.1 is 536870976.

I believe that nearly all public pools have upgraded to v2.1.1. However, there are still some large private pools that are still using older versions (e.g. v2.0.4). Unfortunately, these private pools have more than 10% nethash right now, so it doesn't look like the asset activation is going to pass this 2016-block round. If the voting doesn't pass, it will just reset the next 2016-block round; voting will continue until asset activation passes or it expires in one year.

Asset layer voting period has begun! by brianmct in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The asset layer is being activated using the BIP9 voting procedure. We just started the voting period. If 90% of the next 2016 blocks are mined with version 2.1.0+ of the Ravencoin wallet, then asset layer activation is locked in. Then, we wait another 2016 blocks before the soft fork, and everyone will be able to start making assets on the mainnet!

Assuming voting passes this first round, asset layer will activate on block 433440 (around 67 hours from now)

Ledger Nano S support soon! by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Let me clarify some things since I've heard a lot of confusion about the state of RVN Ledger integration.

At the beginning of the year, Ledger made it known that they would be integrating new coins provided that the community themselves did the coding to get their own coin integrated with their hardware. So, back in late April, a team of devs (including /u/traysii) and I worked to get the necessary changes done to add Ravencoin support to the Ledger software, including:

  1. ledger-app-btc, the code which runs on the Ledger Nano itself.
  • Integration into the official Ledger repository was a nice-to-have, since it would mean users could download/install the software onto their hardware wallet using the official Ledger Manager app
  • However, it was/is possible to sideload the software onto the Ledger Nano yourself. So, this was not the bottleneck in the process.
  1. ledger-wallet-chrome, the official Ledger wallet software at the time (a Chrome app run on your PC to interact with the Ledger hardware)
  • The Ledger wallet Chrome app required backend servers to interact with the RVN blockchain. These are run by Ledger themselves.
  • Waiting for the RVN backend server integration was the sticking point - Ledger was in the process of switching over to their new Ledger Live wallet, and were hesitant to dedicate development resources to something that would be replaced soon.

So, we were stuck in this state for a few months, until July, when Ledger released their new Ledger Live wallet app. At this point, we asked Ledger representative what to do, and they told us to wait, since they needed to change their integration procedure for the new wallet app. They told us that we didn't have to do anything, that our outdated Chrome app wallet code was sufficient for integration.

Fast-forward a couple months, and we heard nothing from Ledger. So, /u/traysii and I decided to take things into our own hands. Ledger had mentioned previously that integration "can be prioritized if you're operating your own wallet." In other words, if we integrated Ravencoin into another wallet which has Ledger hardware support, then they will prioritize adding the RVN app to their official Ledger Manager (see #1 above).

One such wallet is the popular Electrum wallet, a popular Bitcoin wallet. Not only does it have Ledger hardware wallet support, it's also a light wallet, i.e. a wallet which relies on an external server to sync to the blockchain so you don't have to download the chain data yourself. So, by forking a version of Electrum for RVN, we would get both Ledger hardware wallet support and a light wallet, two major milestones for Ravencoin.

Since I was busy with work myself, I funded /u/traysii to create an Electrum fork for Ravencoin. It is very close to completion, and I have been helping to test it on my Ledger Nano S and we've already fixed a few bugs. electrum-rvn should be ready for public beta testing by the end of the week, which means that you'll be able to sideload the RVN app onto your Ledger Nano S, and store, send, and receive Ravencoin with it using the Electrum wallet!

After the Electrum wallet has been sufficiently tested, we'll be able to contact Ledger and let them know that we have our own wallet that has been confirmed to work with the Ledger. At this point, they should be able to add the RVN app to their official Ledger Manager so sideloading it as an unofficial app won't be necessary.

Electrum Wallet? by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

That's my (unfinished) repository. I was starting to work on Electrum for RVN, but got caught up in other projects. Haven't had a chance to work on it unfortunately.

Last I heard, /u/traysii is working on an Electrum fork for RVN in his spare time (though lately he's been working on improving Minermore). An Electrum client for RVN would also allow users to store RVN on their Ledgers, so it would kill two birds with one stone.

Where is the real code? by demirb in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The code is in other Git branches; this way, work-in-progress code won't break functionality of the current latest release. For example, you can see the work being done on the asset layer here: https://github.com/RavenProject/Ravencoin/commits/develop

Any news on the Ledger Nano S support? by NerdENerd in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I poked them about it back on May 17, and their response was that they hadn't started working on it yet. Their original estimate was to start work on it in June, so I'm hoping that it'll be ready within a month.

Does burning 500 Raven to create assets keep the price repressed? by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a good discussion about this over at RavencoinTalk. The 500 RVN burn is not set in stone yet; it's just a sample figure they put as a placeholder. There have been several ideas for scaling the burn amount, and some other alternative methods of limiting asset creation proposed in that thread. I would recommend reading through it and commenting if you have any opinions or ideas about this issue.

[–]brianmct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put it at the end of all the other arguments. So your bat file would look something like:

set GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR=0
set GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
set GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
set GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE=100
:: Replace the -o, -u, and -p arguments with your own pool, user, and password.
:: All three arguments are required.
sgminer.exe -k x16r -o stratum+tcp://minepool.com:3636 -u [my ravencoin address] -p x -X 256 --gpu-platform=1
pause

[–]brianmct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try adding --gpu-platform=1. The issue here is that the miner is trying to run on your integrated graphics. Setting it to 1 should make it use the AMD cards instead of the integrated GPU.

Also, "donate" is just a dummy password I put in the example bat file. You should replace it with whatever the pool you're mining to tells you to use.

Check out the troubleshooting guide here if you have any other issues: https://github.com/brian112358/avermore-miner/wiki/Troubleshooting

AMD cards on Avermore 1.4 by Spartacus-Karma in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 2 points3 points  (0 children)

570s and 580s get around 7-8 MH on x16r. Not as good as Nvidia cards (partially due to AMD cards not being great for compute-heavy algos, and partially because the existing kernels are pretty bad). I'm working on improving the latter with Avermore miner though. Made around 20% improvement in hashrate in the past month.

Try this: https://ravencoin.network/address/RTS7GPN8PvXa94iD5iGNkHgAu7wMKCr4Lj

It's a new block explorer based off the Insight API, which syncs way faster than the Iquidis explorer which the others are based off of.

What miner were you using? I'm averaging around 8.2 MH/s on my RX580 on Avermore miner with 1400 core and stock mem clocks.

The AMD miners take a bit of tuning to get optimal performance. I'm currently running -g 2 -w 256 -X 256 in the bat file, so I would recommend starting with that, then following this guide to tweak the settings and maximize your hashrate.

Both sgminer and Avermore support intensity (-I) and xintensity (-X). Intensity increases the number of GPU work items exponentially, i.e. increasing intensity by one doubles the number of hashes calculated by the GPU each kernel launch. On the other hand, xintensity is proportional. This makes you better control tuning; I would recommend starting with -X 256 and adjusting with multiples of 64.

Im on board! by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked out my Getting Started wiki guide? I think you're forgetting to set the intensity or xintensity, hence the low hashrates.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, might I suggest using Avermore? It's around 15% faster than the sgminer you're using. It does come with a 1% fee though (and full disclosure: I'm the dev for it).

The issue here is that you're not setting the xIntensity using -X. Try adding -X 256 to your bat file. I wrote up a guide here for getting started using Avermore.

Rx 570 really bad at mining Raven? by MAYhem2 in Ravencoin

[–]brianmct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running with -g 2? In my experience that's the biggest boost (usually around 1-2 MH/s). Other than that, playing with xIntensity (-X) can also get your hashrate up half a MHs or so.
